Assateague Beach parking damaged by tidal flooding

Some portions of the protective sand berm remain on the beach at Assateague Island, Va. on Monday, Oct. 5, 2015 after a coastal storm brough heavy winds and tidal flooding into the area over the weekend. A few sections of the berm suffered from some overwash resulting in some damage to the beach parking lot.

Tidal flooding carved out this section of Assateague beach when a protective sand berm nearby was damaged by tidal flooding resulting from a coastal storm over the weekend. Portions of the beach parking lot also were damaged by the floodwater.
