A couple races off the beach to avoid sand and rain on Friday afternoon in Ocean City.

Is the mercury in the thermometer pushing 100 degrees when you were planning on taking a family bike ride? Does it look like there should be an ark floating by and all you wanted to do was to sit on the beach all day? Then check out some of these suggestions to help keep you cool and dry.

Read up tourists. Locals, well, read anyway in case you forgot.

Retail therapy

A quiet, calm Tanger Outlets at Rehoboth Beach.

Rehoboth is home to the Tanger Outlets, a national outlet chain which has stores such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Nike, Talbots, Old Navy, Yankee Candle and over 100 other stores from which to pick. There are three different outlet locations in Rehoboth and all three locations have a wide variety of shops to keep everyone busy and happy. No sales tax also makes shopping at the Rehoboth outlets a great way to spend a rainy or hot day.

If you can't make it to Delaware, there is another Tanger Outlet center in West Ocean City. With outlets such as J. Crew, Gap, Adidas and over 25 other outlets, the Tanger Outlets in West Ocean City offers many of the same stores as the location in Rehoboth at a location more convenient for people staying on the south side of Ocean City.

Another place to check out is the shops on Garfield Parkway near the Bethany Beach board walk. From book stores to surf shops, art galleries to upscale boutiques, the shops on Garfield Parkway has something for everyone. And, like the Rehoboth outlets, there's no sales tax.
