Was that Jack Nicholson in Rehoboth Beach?

Is that Jack? It turns out that the "Jack Nicholson" spotted at Rehoboth Beach's Crystal Restaurant was actually a look-alike.

But having the rich and famous in town is nothing new, really.

Everyone from actors Denzel Washington and Richard Gere to basketball legend Michael Jordan and Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant has been spotted in Dewey, Rehoboth and Bethany beaches over the years.

One bold-face name that hasn't been spotted at the beach is actor Jack Nicholson.

Or has he?

Fresh from bumping into Grohl over the weekend and taking a selfie with him, News Journal reader Tracey Tillman sent along a photo of her friend's daughter with a man who bares a striking resemblance to the three-time Academy Award-winner. It was taken at Rehoboth's iconic Crystal Restaurant, which is especially popular with breakfast crowds.

With so many Nicholson look-alikes out there, needless to say, we were skeptical. But Tillman, of Lewes, responded, "Oh yes, my friend's daughter is sure it is him."

A search of recent images of Nicholson does not reveal any photos of him wearing that ring on his right hand. And good luck finding a photo of the man who played George Hanson in "Easy Rider" wearing a shirt tucked into khakis like a senior PGA golfer.

We called Crystal Restaurant to see if they had seen Nicholson or had heard about his visit.

That's when Julie Tsolakis, mother of owner Yanni Tsolakis, immediately started laughing.

"I took the picture. That's not Jack. It's a look-alike," she said through her giggles.

The man, whose real name she did not know, is a regular at the Rehoboth Avenue eatery. She says he loves the attention and no matter how busy it is, members of the staff yell, "Jack's in the house!" whenever he walks in.

So with a Nicholson impersonator in town, it looks like Dewey Beach's "Dewey Elvis," who has performed each weekend at The Starboard since 1994, may have some fresh competition: "Rehoboth Jack."
