Summerhouse keeps locals happy year-round

ROGER HILLIS, DELMARVANOW CORRESPONDENT

The Summerhouse Saloon in Rehoboth Beach has been a staple of the downtown business community for decades, and its name brings to mind the warmer months of the year. However, it is open year-round and has a happy hour that keeps locals smiling.

Happy hour takes place at the main bar from 4 to 7 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays. Those who thank God that it's Friday after a long work week can enjoy an extra 60 minutes of discounts, as the specials run until 8 p.m.

Take advantage of $2.75 domestic bottles of beer, including Budweiser, Bud Light, Coors Light, Miller Lite and Yuengling. For $6.25, try a fresh-squeezed martini (pink grapefruit, pineapple and lemon drop). House wines priced at $5.25 include Bogle Chardonnay, Stone Fruit Riesling, Cielo Pinot Grigio, Two Tone Farms Blend and 181 Merlot.

Those with the munchies have nearly two dozen discounted appetizers to choose from, which are listed at www.summerhousesaloon.com. The prices range from $3-$8. Among the many offerings are baby crab cakes, steak and blackened chicken quesadillas, shrimp queso with Old Bay chips and sesame-crusted rare tuna.

The Summerhouse is owned by the Sugrue family, which also owns the Big Fish Grill chain. As such, keep an eye out for various seafood specials before, during and after happy hour.
