Delaware Seaside Railroad Club to hold open house

The Daily Times

The Delaware Seaside Railroad Club in Dagsboro is opening its doors every Wednesday and Saturday to all interested in trains to come in and see the interactive layouts.

The Delaware Seaside Railroad Club in Dagsboro is opening its doors on Wednesdays and Saturdays to all train lovers.

Right now there are about six interactive layouts showcasing everything from N-gauge trains—the smallest ones used—to G-gauge trains. These are the largest and most modern trains.

Some layouts have interactive buttons for interested visitors to actually make things happen, including making accessories work or making noises.

There are also occasionally memorabilia trinkets being sold that were donated to the organization.

Several of the workers available to help with the layouts are well-versed in the organization and train history and are eager to teach others.

In the past, the group brought in students frequently to teach them about the trains and layouts through workshops.  Unfortunately, though, due to budgeting and time this has not happened recently.

“We’re trying to bring up interest in this to get it started again,” President John Hodges said.

The Delaware Seaside Railroad Club is a nonprofit organization that relies on donations and the sponsorship of local businesses to keep their club running. Currently, there are about 50 businesses helping the group out.

“We are very thankful for their aid,” Hudges said.

The group has been around for several years, but only just moved to their new location in Dagsboro a year and a half ago.

The layouts are available to be explored every Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., but will be closed the next two Saturdays for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
