The comedy-drama, directed by Woody Allen, focuses on a young Jewish man, Bobby Dorfman, in New York City in the 1930s who decides to move to Hollywood, where he begins working for his uncle, a powerhouse agent. After a messy love-triangle filled with drama, he later returns home to New York to run a nightclub with his older brother, a New York gangster. However, this move does not let Bobby escape the theatrics of young love or the age.

"Café Society"features a star-studded case inclucing Jeannie Berlin, Steve Carell, Jesse Eisenberg, Blake Lively, Parker Posey, Kristen Stewart, Corey Stoll and Ken Scott.

Salisbury Film Society Director Jim Burton said the group decided to screen "Cafe Society" because of the reputation of its director and the quality of the film itself.

“Woody Allen is one of the established greats of American movies and this was a real return to form for him,” Burton said. “It’s funny, smart and historically engaged in the same way 'Midnight in Paris' was.”

The film, hosted by the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council, will be shown on the Salisbury University campus in the Fulton Hall Film Center at 2:30 p.m.

The movie runs 96 minutes, but there will be a facilitated group discussion hosted by an expert immediately following the screening.

“The film is kind of about the difference between dreams and reality, and it’s about 1930’s Hollywood,” Burton said. “So there’s kind of a metaphorical and a historical level to discuss.”

Tickets are $9 for all non-SWAC members and $8 for members. Season passes, which include tickets to all four movies shown, are $20. Attendees may park in SU Parking Lot H off of College Avenue.
