Thousands of Cruisers to roar into Ocean City

Ocean City will resound with the roar of the cruisers this weekend.

One of the hottest hot rod shows on the East Coast will bring more than 3,500 customs, hot rods, street machines, classics and more from over 20 states and Canada to Ocean City.

The 27th Annual Cruisin’ Ocean City takes place Thursday to Sunday, May 18-21, with more than 10,000 car enthusiasts spreading over the town including at the Inlet parking lot and the convention center at 40th Street

In addition to the popular car shows and top manufacturers, the event features celebrity guests, Boardwalk parades and musical entertainment, organizers Special Events Productions said in a news release.

Scheduled to appear at this year’s Cruisin’ is special guest Erik Estrada, best known for his role as Officer Frank Poncherello on the classic TV show “CHiPs.” The show was made into a movie this winter.

Estrada will be at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center on Friday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; at the Inlet on Saturday from 11a.m.-4 p.m. and  Sunday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. signing autographs and posing for pictures.

Also appearing at the Cruisin’ will be Kevin Mack from the hit TV show "Counting Cars.”

Mack will be meeting and greeting fans on Friday at the Inlet 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday inside the convention center from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.  Stop by to take a pic and talk about all the fun they have on the show.  

Plus see the Flintstone Mobile Show Car that will be on display Friday and Saturday inside the convention center.

Additional entertainment includes live music, BINGO, the giant Jukebox, Seaside Jimmy, Cruisin Gold Deejay and much more.

On Thursday at 8 p.m., Under the Streetlamp will be rockin the stage of the Ocean City Performing Arts Center in the convention center featuring stars from the Broadway show “Jersey Boys.”

 Under the Streetlamp delivers an electrifying evening of classics from the American Radio songbook, bringing their unique blend of tight harmonies and slick dance moves to your favorite Doo Wop, Motown and old time Rock n’ Roll hits.

Thursday and Friday will also be  the Express Auctioneer's Collector Car Auction inside the convention center  eaturing hot rods, muscle cars, exotic cars and even a motorcycle!  The preview will begin at 9 a.m. and the live auction begins at 11 a.m. both days. 

This is a great opportunity to sell your ride or pick up a new one just in time for the summer.  Scheduled to go on the auction block is a 1930 Pierce Arrow Model “B.”

There will also be a Swap Meet Friday and Saturday at the convention center.  

Other Cruisin’ highlights are the Boardwalk Parades on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings.  Staging beings at 27th Street on the Boardwalk and the parades begin at 8 a.m. from North Division Street going south to the inlet.

On Sunday, the Grand Finale Awards will take place at the Beachside Inlet with more than 500 trophies, plaques and awards  to be presented along with more than 3,000 giveaways.  

Tickets are $10 a day for Thursday and Sunday and $15 a day for Friday and Saturday, good at both locations.  Children under 14 are free with an adult. 

Show hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday with the awards presentation starting at 2 p.m.
