Peter and Linda Roskovich recently had their Ocean City vacation home featured on HGTV Friday, June 2, 2017.

For the Roskovich family, owning a townhouse in Ocean City seemed like the natural thing to do.

Peter Roskovich grew up coming to the beach town to spend summers at his grandmother’s beach house, while Linda Roskovich spent time in Ocean City for a one-week vacation every summer. The couple have passed the tradition down to their three daughters with the family renting in the area for the past three years.

The family is local to the Salisbury area. Linda and Peter are both Salisbury University alumni. Peter owns Black Diamond Catering and Adam's Taphouse and Grille, while Linda works for Perdue Farms.

Sometime around last June the family invested in a townhouse of their own that needed a bit of TLC. On Saturday, June 3, the renovation story will play out on HGTV’s “Beachfront Bargain Hunt: Renovation,” airing at 9 p.m.

The decision to switch from buying to renting came after Peter had a heart attack, and Linda said she realized time is fleeting. The couple wanted a place where they and their daughters could come together outside their family home in Salisbury.

““If we don’t do this now we’ll never get to do it,” she said.

Their three major requirements included all the features they were able to get with a rental: a boat lift and a good view, a bike ride's distance from the Boardwalk.

“I ride my bike up to the Boardwalk and run the Boardwalk every morning, so we knew that we wanted to be on this end of town,” she explains.

While they were purchasing the townhouse, Peter Roskovich said, their Realtor mentioned how the property would be a perfect contender for the HGTV show. He ended up submitting an application, and after the family completed a Skype interview the show was on the way to film the renovation process.

With the help of Mitrecic Builders, architect Steven Cirile, Kitchen Concepts Plus’ Mike Donohue and Kendall Home Furnishings’ Adele Zaniewski, the townhouse received an entire renovation.

Peter Roskovich said it’s one of the bigger projects “Beachfront Bargain Hunt: Renovation” has seen, with the home needing a roof replacement, new flooring and new walls. While some of the original wood walls were replaced with drywall, others were replaced with wood similar to the original.

Other aspects of the renovation included upping the bathroom count from one and a half to three, adding a garage and replacing the entire front room. A balcony was also put on the front of the house on the second floor. The most original part of the house is the outside deck facing the water.

“We really weren’t going to go that far, but it kind of kept coming and coming as things progressed,” he said.

The Roskovichs started with an $80,000 budget for renovation. Linda said the family ended up going a bit over budget, ending closer to the $90,000 mark.

However, they were able to keep the house's beach cottage feel. Cirile, of Avitabile Cirile Architecture, said he assessed the original condition of the house and came up with remedies for the water and foundation issues. He also catered to their lifestyle by building in plenty of storage space with spacious closets and pocket doors.

Cirile said he helped expand the kitchen space, so Peter could use it as much as possible with the Kitchen Concept Plus design. Linda said this was one of the most important aspects for him, with his food business background.

As for interior design, Linda said she gave Kendall Home Furnishings’ Zaniewski a color palette of dark blue, light blue and green. She’s more traditional in style, so the design kept with a classic beach home feel. The local touch continues throughout the home with a painting by Salisbury-born artist Abbi Custis hanging in the stairway.

With the yearlong renovation process completed, Linda jokes they still haven’t fully unpacked and this is the first weekend they’ll be staying more than one night in a row in the completed home.

The family will be hosting a viewing party tomorrow to see their episode for the first time. “Beachfront Bargain Hunt: Renovation” airs episode 2 of season 2, “Making Memories in Maryland” at 9 p.m. Saturday and midnight Sunday, June 4.
