Though Memorial Day weekend started the uptick in traffic — both cars and foot — on Delmarva, summer is (finally) officially here this weekend with Independence Day approaching Tuesday.

There will be plenty of fireworks shows and other Fourth of July celebrations throughout the region, but vacationers and locals alike can also find stand-up comedy, home brewing and more to fill their weekend calendars.

Here are five fun things to do this weekend on Delmarva:

Comedian and former host of the Tonight Show, Jay Leno will perform at the Freeman Stage in Selbyville on June 30.

Jay Leno live

The "hardest working man in show business" brings his many talents to Delmarva this weekend. Jay Leno, acclaimed late-night television host, author, comedian, corporate speaker — OK, you know who he is — will perform Friday night at The Freeman Stage at Bayside in Selbyville.

With special guest Gimme Four, a barbershop quartet from New Jersey, Leno and guests are sure to kick off a holiday weekend with plenty of laughs.

Tickets range from $55-$100.

A huge crowd was on hand to view the pyrotechnics as the Annual Rehoboth Beach Fireworks were shot off on Sunday Evening July 3rd from the beach.

Fireworks cruise

Departing from the Lewes Ferry terminal, the annual Rehoboth Fireworks Cruise is this Sunday night, offering guests a chance to watch fireworks out on the water. Local favorite Glass Onion will be performing and food and beverages will be available for purchase.

The event typically sells out, so purchasing tickets ASAP is encouraged.

Brewing in Berlin

Escape the beach for a few hours and learn how to make your own beer? That seems like a good excuse to get out of the sun for a bit.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, chef and brewer Tony Hilligoss will teach guests the art of home brewing at Brews Up in Berlin, 10019 Old Ocean Blvd., Berlin, Md. 21811.

This weekend, runners and people looking for a good workout can find two different 5k's with tradition.

Saturday at Grove Park in Rehoboth Beach, the 27th Beach Paper Firecracker 5k run and 5k walk has a 7:30 a.m. start time, with registration beginning at 6 a.m. For information on this event, visit seashorestriders.com.

In Dewey Beach on Sunday, the 14th Outlet Liquors 5k at the Ivy, a Ten Sisters of Dewey Beach series event, begins at 8 a.m. with registration starting at 7. For more visit races2run.com/events/outlet-liquors-5k.
