Solar eclipse 2017

If you haven't heard by now, there's a total solar eclipse happening this Monday, August 21.

While the Delmarva Peninsula isn't in the band of total obstruction, we're in the 75 percent range and will have a great view of the rare event.

So grab your eclipse glasses, if you can find them, and head to the beach to check it out.

Oh, and when you're going, here are a few cool, eclipse-inspired drinks to sip on.

The Biltmore Original Tequila Sunrise.

Tequila Sunrise

This should be one of the first drinks that come to mind when thinking about sunny cocktails.

The classic mix of orange juice (3 ounces), tequila (1.5 ounces) and grenadine (1/2 ounce) will make for a refreshing drink while you stare at the sun.

Old Forge Distillery's Bloody Mooney

Bloody Mooney

This recipe comes from the fine folks at Old Forge Distillery in Tennessee. It's basically a Bloody Mary, but with moonshine instead of vodka.

The recipe is as follows...
2 ounces moonshine
5 ounces Bloody Mary mix
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
3 dashes of Tobasco

Spicy. Boozy. Perfect.

Capri Sun cocktails

This trend started to take shape a few years back. It's fun and makes for a delicious drink. We're sure your beach house may have some Capri Sun for the kids. So, get a little creative and make it an adult drink.

Just cut open the pouch, pour in a liquor of your choice and enjoy.

Need an idea? Here's one: The Cherry Sunfeld. Cut open the pouch, pour in some Jack Daniels whiskey and add cherries and an orange slice.

Black Sun

Very briefly, the sun will go black. During the height of the eclipse, here's what you should be sipping on.

A Black Sun is made with Cointreau orange liqueur, dark rum and coke. Garnish it with an orange wedge and watch the sun fade to black.

Supermoon

The website space.com lists this cocktail as perfect for the Supermoon occurrence. But with the moon being such an integral part of the eclipse Monday, this recipe sounded too good not to include.

The Supermoon is made with 1 ounce tequila, 1/2 ounce triple sec, three tablespoons of cream of coconut and a splash of lime. Sounds like a great mix of flavors.
