Best bites at the beach: Offseason specials are back

Now that (most) of the tourists are gone, the meters are free and the boardwalks are clear, the "locals' season" is officially in full swing.

That means low temperatures and even lower prices at most restaurants on the coast.

So, whether you’re looking for a night out or a chance to grab a bite on a budget, here are some offseason specials you don’t want to miss.

Monday

Head to Arena's Deli and Bar in Rehoboth and dig on the Back Yard Barbecue for $8.99. 149 Rehoboth Ave., call 302-227-1272 for more details.

At Catch 54 in Fenwick Island, all entrees are half off, while happy hour spans from 5-7 p.m. Stop by 38931 Madison Ave. or call 302-436-8600 first.

October also means the the Cultured Pearl's Monday sushi special is back. For $15, you can get three rolls of your choice, miso soup, edamame and green tea. Located at 301 Rehoboth Ave., you can give them a call at 302-227-8493

At The Shark on the Harbor in Ocean City, Monday means half-price night. Enjoy half-price dinner entrees and half-price bottles of wine during dinner service. Head to 12924 Sunset Ave., and call 410-213-0924 for reservations.

Tuesday

Ponzetti's Pizza, an iconic pizza joint located at 144th Street and Coastal Highway in Ocean City, offers half priced large pizzas, dine-in only. Call 410-250-2624 for information.

For $13, enjoy fresh beer-battered cod, house-cut French fries and juicy coleslaw at the Buttery Restaurant — 102 2nd St. in downtown Lewes. Call 302-645-7755 for a reservation or for more information.

Café Azafrán in Rehoboth Beach features tapas all night for $8, punctuated by a glass of wine off their wine board for $7. You can find them at 18 Baltimore Ave. in Rehoboth Beach, or give them a call at 302-227-8100.

Wednesday

Starting Wednesday, Nov. 8, Fager's Island will offer half-priced burgers every Wednesday for lunch and dinner.

This includes the restaurant's famous 8-ounce char-grilled burger made with fresh ground certified Angus beef, and the vegetarian garden burger topped with lettuce, tomato, sprouts and mayo.

The deal is for dine-in only, but that's fine. Grab a seat at the bar before nightfall, and count the sunset down with their nightly 1812 Overture. Call 410-524-5500 for more information.

At Half Full in, 125 2nd St. in downtown Lewes, buy a bottle of wine and you can get a free brick oven pizza. Call 302-645-8877 for details.

Evolution Craft Brewing Co. & Public House offers half-priced smoked brisket or pulled pork sandwiches, topped with Jicama slaw and homemade sauce, and the fisherman's stew served with boiled potatoes and garlic bread. Pizza night happens each Thursday at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats, 320 Rehoboth Ave. in downtown Rehoboth Beach. 

Patrons get to build their own or choose from signature pizzas, like the revolutionist; red sauce, pepperoni, grilled chicken, housemade mozzarella, provolone and arugula, at a discounted price. Pizzas are $10. Call 302-226-2739 for more information or to make a reservation.

Saturday 

Located at Route One & Robinson Drive in Rehoboth Beach, Just in Thyme offers a happy hour from 5-6:30 p.m. Regular menu items are $5 off, rail drinks are $5, cocktails are $1 off, domestic beer bottles $3 and malbec, white zinfandel and chardonnay are $5 by the glass. Sunday

BJ's on the Water, 115 75th St. in Ocean City, offers chicken and shrimp parmesan, with a flash-fried chicken breast and shrimp over a bed of pasta, topped with tomato basil sauce and melted provolone. Served with a garden salad and garlic bread, it's $12.50. Call 410-524-7575 for more info.
