Holiday cheer and charity aplenty on Delmarva

ROGER HILLIS

The holiday season always brings equal measures of cheer and good will, and Delmarva will see plenty of both this weekend, with events focused on Christmas music and/or charitable causes.

The Cartoon Christmas Trio will return to the Milton Theatre at 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 3. Ticket prices range from $10 to $20.

In Sussex County, the Milton Theatre will feature its annual appearance by the Cartoon Christmas Trio at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3 ($10, $20).

The instrumental jazz act will be accompanied by local youth chorales from Mariner Middle School and The Jefferson School as they cover songs from animated holiday classics (with an emphasis on music associated with The Peanuts' cartoons).

Led by bassist Rob Swanson, the group was formed 22 years ago — with some of its earliest performances taking place at the former Sydney's Blues & Jazz restaurant in downtown Rehoboth Beach.

In Ocean City, the Seacrets Holiday Bazaar & Bubbly event will take place at the venerable nightspot from 6-10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1 ($20). The acoustic duo Full Circle will provide the soundtrack as a bevy of local boutiques hawk their jewelry, clothing and holiday decor.

Local soul-rock group The Funsters will perform at Irish Eyes at Anglers in Lewes at 9:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2. Admission is free.

From 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, Seacrets will host The Magic of Christmas (presented by the Believe In Tomorrow Children's Foundation). Santa and his elves will pose for pictures at the family-oriented event, which includes an ugly sweater contest, face painting and other activities.

Admission is free, with raffle money benefitting critically ill youngsters residing at the Believe in Tomorrow Children's House By the Sea.

The local Frets 4 Vets charity organization is known for its ongoing series of  benefits which raise funds and awareness for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Its last such event for the year is set for 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Sons of the American Legion Post 28 in Oak Orchard near Millsboro.

The music will be provided by national rock act Madison Rising with special guests Steel Rain and Fuzzbox Piranha. General admission tickets are $15, with pricier VIP seating available for groups of four.

Another party for a good cause is the Benefit for Annette Allman, which will take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Lewes-Rehoboth Moose Lodge on Route 9 ($10). Annette is a member of the lodge, and proceeds will aid with medical expenses relating to her current battle with cancer.

Rock and dance tunes will be provided by local favorite The Five-Eight Band (formerly The Wise Guys).

In downtown Rehoboth Beach, the Dogfish Head brewpub has a free indie-rock show set for Friday, Dec. 1. New Jersey quartet Wyland will play its keyboard-driven original songs beginning at 10 p.m.
