Stitch House Brewery, a new brewery on N. Market St. in downtown Wilmington, will be serving craft beer and food.

There will be beer.

Stitch House Brewery -- only the second downtown Wilmington brewery in more than six decades -- will officially begin welcoming customers Monday at 11 a.m. following a string of private soft opening events.

If you're not among those invited to the private test runs, there is one way to check out the new brewery before Monday -- stop by on Saturday for a special preview tied to the city's St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Stitch will open Saturday at 11 a.m., an hour before the parade kicks off, and close at 1 a.m., says chef/co-owner Daniel Sheridan. The brewery will only be serving beer, drinks and sandwiches for the parade day sneak peek.

The 7,000-square-foot brewery (829 N. Market St.) will be closed Sunday and re-open Monday for a limited run of sandwich-only lunches in its first week, open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday, March 15.

Mayor Mike Purzycki will attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, March 16 at 3 p.m. A full menu featuring small plate skillets and dinners could come as early as that same day.

Stitch head brewer Andrew Rutherford, who previously made beer for Yards Brewing Co., says his first batches will include lager, IPA, pilsner and stout, along with both a Belgian farmhouse and Belgian gold.

Their sandwich board features 14 offerings, including Reubens ($13), pastrami on rye ($13), breaded chicken cutlet ($13), turkey press ($14), fried bologna ($9), along with both Cubano ($13) and short rib ($15) paninis.
