The Starboard in Dewey Beach will host its annual Bloody Mary Contest May 20. This will be the fifth year of the contest.

The Starboard Restaurant in Dewey Beach will host its 5th annual Bloody Mary Contest — known for absurd yet award-winning concoctions like a tomato soup-style bloody topped with a grilled cheese sandwich — on May 20.

At 3 p.m., builders from up and down the Delaware coast will create the "most ridiculous bloodies" one could ever dream up, according to the Starboard.

Five main judges will sip their way through several rounds of bloodies and judge on taste and presentation before choosing a winner.

Colorful emcee Dickie Heidenberger will be present in his infamous all-red suit.

The contest is sponsored by Tito's and the winner gets $500. The Starboard will also have tables so customers can be in on the judging as well.

Past contenders include the Starboard's decadent tower of Thai lobster tail, four bacon-wrapped scallops and a whole burger.

"The Starboard has a killer bloody, so we’ll see what happens on the 20th," said Starboard owner Steve "Monty" Montgomery.
