Wilmington Brew Works cans are ready for filling once the brewery is ready for production.

If you were too busy barbecuing in the backyard to jump online over the weekend, you probably missed the city's newest brewery announcing a series of soft opening tasting sessions and tours.

The first events at the soon-to-open Wilmington Brew Works — 14 sessions  on Miller Road brewery running from Thursday through July 27, sold out in minutes. The two-hour "Flights of Discovery" sessions cost $20 and includes a flight of beer.

The brewery's ownership decided to offer the small, 30-person tastings and tours ahead of a grand opening, slated for sometime next month.

Even though the first opportunities to quaff at the 4,000-square-foot former site of Harper-Thiel Electroplating Co. are now gone, you can still get a preview of the suds.

The brewery launched its summer-long partnership with Friends of Bellevue State Park on Sunday, servings its beers at a park concert by Jimmy Buffett cover band Jimmy & The Parrots.

Beer making tanks are in place at Wilmington Brew Works on Miller Road in the long-dormant former site of the Harper-Thiel Electroplating Co., a restored brownfield.

Wilmington Brew Works will be pouring at each Sunday (6:30 p.m.) concert at the park this summer:

Sunday — Boy in Black

July 22 — Chorduroy

July 29 — Kategory 5

August 5 — Spokey Speaky

August 12 — The Big Jangle

August 19 — The Core

August 26 — Re-live the Beatles

There is also one other event where Wilmington Brew Works can be found ahead of its official opening.

The brews will also flow at "Jam in the Garden Market" at the Bellefonte Farmer's Market (510 Duncan Road, Bellefonte) on Friday starting at 5 p.m. Sycamore Alley performs and food will be offered by the Uncle John's BBQOle Tapas and Doggie Style food trucks.

Craig Wensell, CEO and head brewer at Wilmington Brew Works, reflects in a door of a beer tank at his brewery that he plans on opening by the end of June.
