'Family Ties' reunion: Meredith Baxter, Michael Gross in 'Love Letters' in Rehoboth Beach
Some of TV's favorite parents of the '80s are reuniting for a production in Rehoboth Beach.
Meredith Baxter and Michael Gross, best known for playing the parents in the hit sitcom "Family Ties," will star in the two-person romantic comedy "Love Letters" on Valentine's Day.
Tickets for the show at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center (229 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach) go on sale at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
A.R. Gurney's "Love Letters" follows the 50-year correspondence between one-time childhood friends as the relationship matures into something different.
The show started as a speech at the New York Public Library. Instead of giving a talk, author Gurney and his friend Holland Taylor read a stack of letters, and the idea for the show was born. "Love Letters" debuted off-Broadway in 1988, drawing stars including Kathleen Turner, Jason Robards, Stockard Channing and Christopher Walken.
Since then, it's been staged, often in limited engagements, around the world with community actors and celebrities alike.
In Delaware, former Gov. Jack Markell and former First Lady Carla Markell performed the play in 2013. The Delaware Theatre Company also staged a production of "Love Letters" starring Michael Learned and Daniel Davis in 2014.
