Monday night's Emmy Awards, from when it's on to what shows to binge

The Emmys are perfect for lazy fans of awards shows because they don't have to leave the couch to see all the nominees.

This year's awards, the 70th, are set to celebrate all things television including streaming, with companies like Netflix and Hulu figuring into the major categories.

Here's what you need to know before settling in Monday evening for the long haul, from the red carpet to the post-parties.

"This is Us"

WHAT CHANNEL ARE THE EMMY AWARDS ON?

NBC

CAN I WATCH ONLINE?

Yes! The Television Academy is giving viewers insider's access with "Backstage Live!," a program streaming on Emmys.com and on the academy's Facebook page.

WHAT TIME IS IT ON?

8 p.m. EST

WHY IS IT ON A MONDAY?

Because if you're both a football fan and an awards show connoisseur, you don't want to miss a thing. And neither does NBC.

According to trade magazine Variety, the Emmy Awards' move to Monday is to avoid conflict with "Sunday Night Football," both of which air on NBC. That means you can watch the New York Giants take on the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday and watch "Game of Thrones" take on "This is Us" in best drama series on Monday.

WHO'S HOSTING?

Colin Jost and Michael Che, the hosts of Weekend Update on "Saturday Night Live."

WHO'S NOMINATED?

There's always drama about nominations before the show even starts. Were Emilia Clark and Kit Harrington, aka Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow, snubbed? Did the "Roseanne" revival, a huge ratings winner, deserve a shot at best comedy series? Check out who got the nod in the top categories.

WHERE CAN I WATCH THE RED CARPET?

NBC: The network airing the awards will start its red carpet preshow at 7:30 p.m.

E!: The go-to source for all things red carpet will start its coverage at 4:30 p.m. with "Countdown to the Red Carpet." Longtime fans know, though, that the biggest stars typically won't show up until closer to showtime.

"E! Stream the Red Carpet" starts at 6 p.m. on the website, and airs in conjunction with the TV coverage. It's trying something new this year, too, with "E! Live from the Red Carpet" on Twitter at @enews starting at 6 p.m.

PEOPLE TV: You don't actually need a TV to watch PeopleTV, the magazine's streaming service. Just download the app or watch at People.com.

People and Entertainment Weekly are teaming up for red carpet coverage starting at 6 p.m.

WHAT IF I WANT MORE EMMYS AFTER THE SHOW?

IMDB is teaming up with the Television Academy again for their online post-show, "IMDb Live After the Emmys" at 11 p.m. The show will have winner interviews backstage, social media fan Q&As and more. You can watch on IMDb.com, Emmys.com, Twitch and Twitter.

E! is doing an hour of after-party coverage starting at 11 p.m.
