The Ocean City Mayor and Town Council unanimously voted Monday night to postpone SunFest after a long discussion about the festival’s viability given the pandemic and statewide restrictions.

Sunfest is returning to Ocean City for the 44th time to celebrate the end of another great summer in Ocean City.

The festival will bring friends and family from all around the region for a free, four-day celebration of music and crafts. Ocean City’s Inlet Parking Lot will host the popular event from Thursday, Sept. 20 to Saturday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Along with the free activities, headliners come to Ocean City for a paid concert each night from Thursday to Saturday: Forever Tina “The World’s #1 Tina Turner Revue” will perform Thursday, followed by The Cadillac Three on Friday and Daughtry on Saturday, Each performance is set for 8 p.m., and tickets for the Daughtry performance are already sold out.

Live music is not the only reason Sunfest has become a big draw in Ocean City, according to Frank Miller, special events director for for the town.

Gail Stewart of Baltimore finds a Ravens decoration as Sunfest opens in Ocean City.

“In it’s 44th year, Sunfest has over 300 vendors, about 20 different food vendors,” MIller said. “It offers something for everybody. If you are looking for something for your home, if you are into arts and crafts, there is always something to see. It is almost like a little treasure hunt.”

“When you walk through Sunfest you will always see something you have never seen before,” Frank said, “Things you are not going to find in stores or on a website.”

Craft beer and wine will be available for purchase, and families are encouraged to bring their children to enjoy hayrides, activities designed for children and the live music.

“Good family-style entertainment so that is why people keep coming back to it,” Miller said.

A $3 Sunfest Express shuttle will be available as more than 200,000 are expected to attend the event, according to MIller.

“It represents what Ocean City is all about and it is laidback. It is great to see the people come in and relax and enjoy and take in everything we have done,” MIller said.
