Kids who go bananas for forklifts and dump trucks are in luck this weekend.

The first Big Truck Day rolls into the Delaware Seashore State Park (25039 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Indian River Marina.

Kids will get a close-up look at a DNREC dump truck, a beach sweeper, minibus, forklift, police vehicle and other types of heavy equipment and special-use vehicles. And if the weather behaves, a U.S. Coast Guard vessel will be docked at the marina.

Meanwhile, parents can get a car seat safety check.

The event is free with park admission: $5 per in-state vehicle, $10 per out-of-state.

If weather cooperates, there will be a U.S. Coast Guard vessel docked at the marina on Saturday for Big Truck Day.

3 more for kids who love cars

"From Here to There" at the Delaware Museum of NaturalHistory: The new exhibit explores how things move by land, sea and air. It opens Saturday with a party from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the museum (4840 Kennett Pike, Greenville). The special opening event will bring different vehicles, games, animal presentations, food trucks and kid-friendly activities to the museum. Admission to the museum is $8-$9, $3 for children 1-2 years old, and free for babies younger than 12 months and members. delmnh.org

Truck and Tractor Day at Winterthur: Kids can check out 30 tractors, farm trucks and other estate equipment; or take a hayride; meet the firefighters and try on turnout gear; put on a safety harness and climb a tree; or just chill and do some crafts. Truck and Tractor Day is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the museum (5105 Kennett Pike, Winterthur). It's included with general admission: $18-$20, $6/children 2-11 years old, free/younger than 2 and members.

Brycent Abbott tries out a Toyota pickup at the 2012 Delaware Auto Show. This year's runs Friday to Sunday.

Delaware Auto Show at the Chase Center on the Riverfront: Sorry, the superheroes are skipping this year's event. But young gearheads still have plenty of cars, trucks and SUVs to ogle, plus kids' ice cream socials (noon to 4 Saturday, noon to 3 Sunday) and inflatable basketball games Saturday. The Delaware Children's Museum will be there, too, with Roller Racers scooters. The Auto Show, which is sponsored by the News Journal Media Group, is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Chase Center in Wilmington. Tickets are $10, free for ages 12 and younger.
