As Eagles face Bears, superstitious fans are ready to do their part

Is the fate of a football team hundreds of miles away linked to the way you tie your shoelaces?

Worth a shot.

It may not be pure science, but lots of sports fans — and players — will testify that their dinner or clothing choices gave the universe that nudge it needed to help their team win.

Eagles nation knows all about this. For example, one very devoted fan reported standing all game to help the team score.

Bear resident Dottie Lovett also reports good results with careful positioning around the TV.

"At my daughter's house for any Eagles game, we must maintain the same seat arrangements for the entire game," she wrote in an email. The only times they're allowed to leave their spots are during commercials and at halftime.

Another fan arrived 14 hours early for the Eagles season opener against the Falcons, UPI reported (the Eagles won).

It can get weird. CBS 3 in Philadelphia interviewed one fan who said, "I have a hairless cat named Carlos and I watch the game with him." The woman didn't note whether Carlos was an Eagles fan as well — PETA may want to look into that.

Others face the choice on whether to make the ultimate sacrifice: To not watch the game at all, even the biggest game.

But wait, maybe it's not you, it's the food.

Or ... the Christmas tree?

Some Eagles players try for that extra kick as well. Like kicker Jake Elliott, who has one slice of pizza and one slice of cheesecake the night before games, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer

On the other hand, maybe superstition ain't the way. This Eagles fan saw no hope a few weeks ago.
