Electronic dance music, country and more on tap as beach hot spots warm up for season

These are the final days leading up to the Memorial Day holiday, which will usher in the tourist season, and all manner of music is already available for locals wanting to hit the town before the mayhem kicks in.

In Dewey Beach, the Starboard nightclub will feature a free performance by Bruce in the USA at 10 p.m. Friday, May 17.

As the name indicates, the group pays tribute to the music of Bruce Springsteen & the E-Street Band. Singer-guitarist Matt Ryan is a dead ringer for Springsteen — in looks, vocals and stage delivery. He created his Bruce in the USA revue on the Las Vegas strip more than a decade ago, and now brings it around the country (as well as to Europe.)

In downtown Rehoboth Beach, the Dogfish Head brewpub will feature a free concert by Burlington, Vermont, jam band Swimmer at 10 p.m. Friday, May 17.

Bruce in the USA will return to the stage of The Starboard nightclub
in Dewey Beach at 10 p.m., Friday, May 17, to pay tribute to the music
of Bruce Springsteen & the E-Street Band. Admission is free.

The quartet is in the midst of a lengthy tour supporting its “Throw It Out” album, which melds funk, jazz and electronica. Speaking of Dogfish — congrats go out to business owners Sam and Mariah Calagione, who last week inked a highly publicized merger deal with the Boston Beer Company, brewers of Sam Adams. Cheers!

Fager’s Island in Ocean City has a weeknight dance party in the offing. Electronic dance music act Kalicade will provide the soundtrack at 10 p.m. Monday, May 20.

Burlington, Vermont, jam band Swimmer will play a free concert at the
Dogfish Head brewpub in downtown Rehoboth Beach at 10 p.m., Friday,
May 17.

The Philadelphia-based duo consists of drummer JD Davis and deejay-guitarist John Sander. As is the trend these days, the two add live instrumentation to pre-recorded hip hop, pop and EDM tracks.

For those who want a second or third helping, Kalicade will return to Fager’s on Monday, June 17, and Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Back in Dewey Beach, the Bottle & Cork will present its first concert of 2019 when country star Dylan Scott takes the stage at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 23 ($25.)

His hits include “Hooked,” “My Girl” and the current single “Nothing to Do Town.” The Cork has a full slate of country shows set for this summer, which we’ll be keeping you abreast of in this very column.
