Aubrey Plaza & Dan Levy spell trouble in ridiculous Loewe commercial. Watch it here

You don't have to be an English major to realize Aubrey Plaza couldn't spell the word "Loewe" if her life depended on it — at least not in a new comedic situation she's in with Dan Levy.

The A-list actress from Wilmington and Levy, who both starred in the holiday romcom "Happiest Season," have teamed up in a commercial for the Spain-based luxury fashion brand Loewe. In the two-minute ad, Plaza is in a spelling bee when Levy assigns her the word "Loewe," which she fails miserably at spelling -- not just in one decade but repeatedly over 53 years.

This time-travel aspect is important to the commercial because it gives Levy ("Schitts Creek'') and Plaza an excuse to show off different looks from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2024.

The commercial begins in 1971 with Plaza wearing oversized wire-frame glasses; a long, dark brown librarian skirt with a caramel-colored blouse. Levy's '70s aesthetic is a white shirt and dark tie, burgundy blazer and matching oversized glasses.

Aubrey Plaza attends the Film Independent Spirit Awards on March 4, 2023 in Santa Monica, California.

Levy first asks her to spell Loewe, which is pronounced "Low-Ev-Aye." Things go left from there.

"Can I get a definition, please? Or a glass of water?" Plaza asks.

"You cannot get water. You can get a definition. Loewe: a luxury fashion house," Levy explains.

"Here I go: L-W," Plaza says, after Levy quickly signals a loud, humiliating buzzer. Plaza's attempt to spell the word in other eras only gets worse from there.

The commercial was written by Levy and led by "Black Mirror" director Ally Pankiw.

This Loewe commercial fashions itself more as a short film than an advertisement. Evidence of this is in the description of the ad on Loewe's YouTube channel, which says: "Dan Levy and Aubrey Plaza star in DECADES OF CONFUSION, an unmistakably LOEWE film."

Is Aubrey Plaza joining John Waters in 'Liarmouth'?

Aubrey Plaza attends the 2023 TIME100 Gala at Jazz at Lincoln Center on April 26, 2023 in New York City.

Rumors were swirling last month that Plaza was to set star in a new film by director John Waters titled "Liarmouth," an adaptation of his novel “Liarmouth: A Feel-Bad-Romance."

Several media outlets initially reported that Plaza had been cast in the film, but Waters set the record straight in an interview with The Baltimore Banner.

“We have no start date or green light to begin production but are working to, hopefully, make that happen,” Waters said.

While Plaza may not have a contract, Waters told the Banner he is “thrilled and excited at the idea of Aubrey Plaza” starring in the movie and the idea that the flick is “ready to go in Baltimore,” but beyond that, he said the reports were just “pure speculation.”

Aubrey Plaza stars in a commercial for Mountain Dew Baja Blast that also features her former 'Parks & Recreation' co-star Nick Offerman. The ad will be featured during the Super Bowl.

It's like Aubrey Plaza somehow got her name submitted to the Tri-Wizard Tournament.

In a new Super Bowl ad released by Mountain Dew/PepsiCo., the A-list actress from Delaware is riding like Harry Potter on the back of a fire-spewing dragon.

In a portion of the Mountain Dew Baja Blast commercial, Plaza, wearing medieval clothing and long braids, "is having a blast'' riding atop the fire-spewing creature with a very familiar companion riding alongside.

Aubrey Plaza misses out on first Emmy, but her gown is a winner

Aubrey Plaza

Aubrey Plaza may have lost her first shot at an Emmy Award to co-star Jennifer Coolidge for their smash hit, the HBO drama "The White Lotus,'' but before show host Anthony Anderson had even uttered a word, she was already making headlines.

Aubrey's choice for the red carpet drew high praise from fashion critics, but also inspired a ton of memes comparing the yellow silk gown to a infamous "Sex in the City'' Post-It note, a lunch bag and a slice of American cheese.

This year's Emmy Award ceremony was postponed to Martin Luther King Jr. Day due to the Hollywood labor disputes in 2023.

Plaza and her supporters will learn her Emmy fate during the Monday holiday. If she wins, it'll help to boost her profile as she fights for Joe Biden's title of "Most Famous Delawarean."

Here's a look at some interesting things you should know about this news magnet of an actress.

Aubrey Plaza loves to hang with her baby sisters

During her down time when she's not shooting, Plaza likes to hang out with her little sisters, Natalie and Renee Plaza.

The sisters didn't follow in Aubrey's acting footsteps, as Natalie (who is 12 years younger than Aubrey) is a financial adviser, while Renee (who is seven years younger than Aubrey) is working toward her Ph.D. in clinical psychology, according to a Jan. 6 article from People.

The siblings are still close, the article continued, and the trio attend weddings and concerts together.

Christopher Abbott, Aubrey Plaza in 'Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.'

During the fall Plaza debuted in her first off-Broadway show, "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea." Before the finale in January, Variety reported the production wasn't going to lose money.

Deep Blue is directed by Jeff Ward and written by John Patrick Shanley ("Doubt," "Moonstruck") and includes actor Christopher Abbott alongside Plaza.

In the show, Plaza plays a single mom while Abbott is a loner who lives with his mom. The strangers meet in a New York bar and discuss the difficulties of their life.

'Scott Pilgrim Takes Off' anime with Aubrey Plaza is on Netflix

Actress Aubrey Plaza attends the premiere of Universal Pictures' 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World' film at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on July 27, 2010 in Hollywood, California.

The Hollywood star is a voice actor in the new Netflix anime series "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off," which premiered in November.

She reprised her role of Julie Powers, the no-nonsense character she played in the live-action film "Scott Pilgrim vs the World" (2010).

The show has since garnered mixed reviews, with some fans praising the program for offering a fresh opportunity to enjoy the "Scott Pilgrim" franchise as an anime, while others have stated the American voice acting sounds sketchy at times and they prefer to listen to the show in Japanese dub (which is common preference in the anime community).
