Beware the 'British Invasion' on Jan. 14

The Daily Times
The British Invasion Experience will bring its tribute to the 1960s to the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017.

The Wicomico Youth & Civic Center in Salisbury will host dinner and a show Saturday, Jan. 14 at 5:30 p.m. as they present The British Invasion Experience.

The British Invasion Experience is band formed in 2011 and based in Salisbury. The group’s music focuses around paying tribute to The Beatles through their entire career dating all the way back to their debut on the Ed Sullivan Show.

The Beatles is not all the band plays, however. The British Invasion Experience plays hits and classics from other British groups of the 1960s and 1970s such as The Dave Clark Five, The Hollies, The Yard Birds, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones and The Who.

At the end of each show, the group tops off their performance with hits from the psychedelic era such as songs by Cream and Pink Floyd.

Members of the group have said that they are “dedicated to engaging” their audiences while traveling back through the work of the most popular groups of the time, while at the same time emphasizing the impact all these groups had on the music and culture of the modern day.

Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. at the same time the doors open. It will consist of a garden salad, Irish stew, fish and chips, corned beef and cabbage, mashed potatoes, a vegetable medley, rolls and butter, a chief’s dessert table and iced tea, water and coffee.

Each member of the group came together because of their love for this genre of music. Lead vocalist and guitarist Jon Pheasant, of the Eastern Shore, began doing Beatles tribute shows at 14 in 2003.

His brother, drummer and vocalist Ben Pheasant, learned the drums at first to “Love Me Do” by The Beatles.

Lead guitarist and vocalist James Mathias said that he was inspired to play music by his father, because he “taught me everything I know,” as well as John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Anthony Green, Radiohead and more. All these people motivated him to write his own music and pursue it.

Bassist and vocalist Dave Romero said that he first learned to love music through listening and mimicking Elvis’ voice styles. However, the Beatles inspired him to learn to play Piano and soon, he bought his first bass guitar from a pawn shop and learned the bass parts to his favorite songs.

Tickets to the event can be purchased at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center website.
