National reggae act Mighty Mystic will play a free concert at the Dogfish Head brewpub in downtown Rehoboth Beach at 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2.

While holiday music is filling the radio airwaves this month, a downtown Rehoboth Beach nightclub is going to heat things up with a show featuring more summer-like sounds.

National reggae act Mighty Mystic will play a free concert at the Dogfish Head brewpub at 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2. The show is the kick-off of the band's Winter Riding Tour, which finds it closing out 2016 by traveling up and down the East Coast for two weeks, including four dates in Florida. The outing is in support of the group's third album, "The Art of Balance."

The band is the branchild of frontman Kevin Holness, who has spent most of his life in Boston, but was born in Jamaica. He is the younger brother of Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness.

Mighty Mystic's albums, including "Concrete World" and "Wake Up the World," have fared well on the Billboard Reggae charts. This has led to opening act duties for some of the group's influences including Steel Pulse, Toots & the Maytals, the Wailers, Third World, Barrington Levy, Freddie McGregor and others.

The band describes its sound as Hard Roots — it is a raw blend of Jamaican and American reggae with elements of hip hop.
