ASBURY PARK - The zombies have received municipal approval to once again storm the streets of Asbury Park.

The Asbury Park City Council unanimously approved the special event application for the 2018 Asbury Park Zombie Walk during its Wednesday night meeting.

Since its inception more than a decade ago, the Asbury Park Zombie Walk has drawn thousands of attendees in ghoulish makeup and attire to the city's Boardwalk and downtown areas every October.

Zombies fill the Asbury Park boardwalk Saturday, October 5, 2013.

"The Zombie Walk is a great event in Asbury, and the city wants to see it remain here," Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn told the Asbury Park Press.

Last month, the Zombie Walk revealed on its Facebook page that it was planning to return to the city on Saturday, Oct. 6.

For this year's walk, attendees will gather on the Asbury Park Boardwalk starting at noon, with the parade stepping off at 4 p.m. The undead masses will then head south down the boardwalk to Cookman Avenue before turning right onto Mattison Avenue.

The event will climax at the intersection of Mattison and Main Street, where a DJ will be stationed.

The Asbury Park Zombie Walk, a former Guinness Book of World Records honoree for largest gathering of zombies, is in its 11th year.

Event organizers banned prop weapons from the event in 2017 following a mass shooting earlier that month in Las Vegas.
