Where to watch holiday parades on Delmarva

As is usual for Delmarva, a host of holiday parades will be taking place up and down the peninsula this year.

Here’s where to visit to witness the wintertime spectacle of marching bands, floats and perhaps even Santa Claus himself.

Chincoteague

What: Chincoteague Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade

When: 6 p.m. Dec. 2

Cost: Free

Info: The evening begins at 6 p.m. with The Salt Marsh Ramblers performing in Robert N. Reed Downtown Park. At 6:30 p.m., there will be an invocation and Town Lighting in front of the Chincoteague Island Library, and at 7 p.m. the parade will begin, featuring floats, bands, marching units and fire companies from across the Eastern Shore and more.

The Chincoteague Police Department is asking anyone attending to bring a new, unwrapped toy. You can hand your toys to the volunteers joining the police department marching in the parade.

Salisbury

What: 71st Salisbury Jaycees Christmas Parade

When: 2 p.m. Dec. 3

Cost: Free

Info: Stepping off at Civic Avenue and Mount Hermon Road and ending at Ward and East Main streets, this year’s theme is "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree." It will feature showcases of more than 100 entries, including fire trucks, marching bands and ol’ Saint Nick.

Onancock

What: 27th Annual Onancock Christmas Parade

When: 5 p.m. Dec. 10

Cost: Free

Info: Beginning at College Avenue and heading down Market Street toward the Onancock Wharf, details on the event are still sparse so far, but updates can be found at the town webpage for the event.

Ocean City

What: 34th Annual Ocean City Christmas Parade

When: 11 a.m. Dec. 2

Cost: Free

Info: Beginning at Old Landing Road and marching northbound along Coastal Highway to 120th Street, more than 50 features will be parading, including horses, antique cars, high school bands, holiday floats and more.

Berlin

What: Berlin Christmas Parade

When: 7-9 p.m. Dec. 7

Cost: Free

Info: Marching through downtown Berlin and sponsored by Berlin Main Street and the town of Berlin, bands, dance teams, fire companies and floats will entertain onlookers awaiting the arrival of Santa.

Pocomoke City

What: 45th Annual Pocomoke Christmas Parade

When: 7 p.m. Nov. 27

Cost: Free

Info: Clowns, marching units, fire departments, equestrian units will march north on Market Street, beginning at 14th Street and ending at the Pocomoke River, in one of Delmarva’s largest nighttime Christmas parades.

Snow Hill

What: Snow Hill Christmas Parade

When: 7 p.m. Dec. 4

Cost: Free

Info: Beginning near Snow Hill High School and ending at the courthouse on Market Street, this year’s event is sponsored by the Snow Hill Lions Club.

Crisfield

What: Crisfield Christmas Parade

When: Dec. 1, 6:30 p.m.

Info: Along Main Street. Bands, floats and more. After the parade, stop by Santa’s House next to City Hall for free photos with Santa by the Somerset County Library.

What: Princess Anne Christmas Parade

When: Dec. 2, 11 a.m.

Info: Parade features local high school and university bands, floats and marching groups from local organizations and civic groups following a route along Somerset Avenue. 

Lewes

What: 2017 Lewes Christmas Parade

When: 5-6:45 p.m. Dec. 2

Cost: Free

Info: The Lewes Christmas tree lighting in Zwaanendael Park will immediately follow Santa’s appearance at the 86th annual Lewes Christmas Parade

Selbyville

What: 57th Annual Selbyville Christmas Parade

When: 7-9 p.m. Dec. 1

Cost: Free

Info: Marching bands, beauty queens, fire trucks, classic cars and more will make their way through downtown Selbyville, celebrating the holiday season.

Delmar

What: Delmar Christmas Parade

When: 2 p.m. Dec.16

Info: This is a date change. Sports teams and the bands were not available for the original date, due to playoffs. There will not be a rain date.

Rehoboth Beach

What: Hometown Christmas Parade

When: 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5

Cost: Free

Info: Presented by the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, in cooperation with the City of Rehoboth Beach, Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce and Rehoboth Beach Main Street, this annual parade promises to be the largest one to date. Participants and watchers are invited to the Rehoboth Beach Fire Station on Rehoboth Avenue after the parade for the awarding of trophies, refreshments and to visit Santa Claus.

Dagsboro

What: The Town of Dagsboro's Annual Christmas Parade

When: 7 p.m. Dec. 5

Cost: Free

Info: Enjoy floats, marching units, Santa Claus and more at the Dagsboro Christmas Parade. Lineup for the parade begins at Indian River High School, at the rear entrance. The parade ill then come into town and end at the new Dagsboro Fire Hall.

Georgetown

What: Georgetown Christmas Parade

When: 7 p.m., Dec. 7

Cost: Free

Info: Organized by the Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the town of Georgetown, the theme for this year’s parade is a “Parade of Lights” and will again culminate in the arrival of Santa Claus. As usual, scores of floats, marching bands, classic cars, fire engines and much more will participate.

Exmore

What: Annual Exmore Christmas Parade

When: 6 p.m. Dec. 9

Cost: Free

Info: This year, the festive event, sponsored by the Exmore Community Fire Department, will introduce a new route, traveling south on Main Street and culminating in a family-friendly holiday party in the Exmore town Park, complete with Santa and a lighted holiday tree.
