Firefly Music Festival '18 weekend announced

AFI performs on the Firefly stage at the Firefly Music Festival in Dover.

Fans have barely unpacked from Firefly Music Festival's 2017 outing and they can already mark next year's festival on their calendar.

Red Frog Events, producer of the festival, has announced the music and camping festival will return for its seventh time around from June 14-17, 2018.

Organizers said in a press release that 90,000 people were in The Woodlands over the weekend to see headliners Bob Dylan, The Weeknd, Twenty One Pilots, Chance the Rapper and Muse as well as more than 125 other bands.

However, attendance was visibly down at the festival and a pair of major vendors told The News Journal that they were told to prepare for 30 percent fewer fans than the 90,000 reported in 2015 and 2016.

The festival made its debut in 2012 with headliners Jack White, The Black Keys and The Killers drawing about 35,000 fans to The Woodlands in Dover.

Firefly grew annually until it hit 90,000 attendees in 2015 when Paul McCartney, The Killers and Kings of Leon were slated to headline; a storm forced an evacuation of festival grounds and Kings of Leon had to leave without performing. The band returned the next year to headline.

Organizers have not yet announced information about early-bird passes for next year's festival.
