Thieves at Firefly snatching phones from hands, pockets and purses, police warn

Logic performs Friday night at the Backyard Stage at the 2018 Firefly Music Festival at The Woodlands in Dover.

Dover Police Department issued a warning late Friday night to the thousands of fans at Firefly Music Festival: Hold onto your phones.

In a late-night post on their Facebook page, Dover Police said they have gotten several reports of people stealing cellphones from pockets, purses and even the hands of people taking photos or videos of shows.

Dover Police Department spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman said 27 phones were recovered last night when police arrested one person. That suspect had not been formally charged as of Saturday, he said, and police are working on returning those phones to their owners.

"It's hard to keep track," he said of the total number of stolen phones, but estimated that another two dozen could still be missing.

Hoffman said Friday was the first time police received a slew of reports of stolen phones, most of which were pickpocketed during the festival.

He urged people to check the lost and found at the festival grounds before reporting any thefts.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
