It looks like spending some time close to Delaware may be in Aubrey Plaza's future.

Rumors were swirling last month that Plaza was to set star in a new film by director John Waters titled "Liarmouth," an adaptation of his novel “Liarmouth: A Feel-Bad-Romance."

Several media outlets initially reported that Plaza had been cast in the film, but Waters set the record straight in an interview with The Baltimore Banner.

Aubrey Plaza attends the Film Independent Spirit Awards on March 4, 2023 in Santa Monica, California.

“We have no start date or green light to begin production but are working to, hopefully, make that happen,” Waters said.

Waters told the Banner at the time that he was “thrilled and excited at the idea of Aubrey Plaza” starring in the movie and the idea that the flick is “ready to go in Baltimore,” but beyond that, he said the reports were just “pure speculation.”

But things seem to be falling into place, at least in part.

What's the latest with 'Liarmouth'?

According to The Banner, in Waters' hometown, "the Baltimore filmmaker has found his leading lady in Plaza for the film adaptation of his first novel, 'Liarmouth: A Feel-Bad Romance.'”

According to the report, "Plaza will play Marsha Sprinkle, a thief and scammer ...”

Waters told the paper he plans to shoot the film in Baltimore but lots of issues remain to be resolved before there is a timetable.

“The book was optioned. I turned in the script. They like the script, but we don’t have the money to make it,” Waters told Variety, in reference to Plaza, “I’m thrilled that she’s going to [star in it], but we don’t have the money yet.”

According to Indiewire, "Sprinkle ..., is described as 'a suitcase thief, scammer, and master of disguise. Dogs and children hate her. Her own family wants her dead. She’s smart, she’s desperate, she’s disturbed, and she’s on the run with a big chip on her shoulder. They call her Liarmouth ― until one insane man makes her tell the truth.'”

IMDB has faith that the film is a go. You can check out an IMDB page for the fillm online.

If "Liarmouth'' is made, it could be Waters' first film in 20 years.
