Guitarist Jonathan Sloane and his band will play a free show at Bethany Blues Lewes on Route 1 at Midway at 8:30 p.m, Saturday, Jan. 28.

The closest thing to a cure for the wintertime blues is a good night of entertainment. This weekend will features area shows that will allow you to either sit and laugh, or hit the dance floor and shake a tail feather to the sounds of live music.

Bethany Blues Lewes, located on Route 1 at Midway, has a free performance by the Jonathan Sloane Trio set for 8:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28. Band leader Sloane is a guitar wizard from the Baltimore area who specializes in the blues — but mixes his music with elements of rock, funk and other styles. When not fronting his own band, he performs with several side projects. Yellow Dubmarine plays (you guessed it) Beatles covers in a reggae style. An all-star collective known as The Bandhouse Gigs brings together regional blues performers.

Comedian Lucas Bohn will present his one-man show, Lesson Plans to Late Night, at the Milton Theatre at 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27 ($15, $20). Bohn is a former elementary school teacher, and much of his show focuses on funny stories involving his students. He also discusses his travels on the cruise ship comedy circuit, as well as his various television appearances.

Comedian Lucas Bohn will appear at the Milton Theatre at 8 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28.

While live rock 'n' roll takes place throughout Delmarva on a regular basis, the vast majority of shows take place at bars that require patrons to be over the legal drinking age of 21. Salisbury concert venue Headquarters Live, however, has an all-ages show set for Saturday, Jan. 28. Regional rock acts Bumpin Uglies and Modern Nomad will team up for the double bill; doors open at 5 p.m., and the music will start at 6 p.m. ($10).

The Dewey Beach Winter Gala will be held at the Baycenter at Ruddertowne on Saturday, Feb. 25. This year's edition of the semi-annual blowout will feature music by the Amish Outlaws, Kristen & the Noize, Three Sheets and the Blues Cats ($90).
