Trio of music festivals will rock Delmarva

Tickets are on sale now for Joan Jett's May 6 appearance at OC's Springfest.

Ocean City's annual Springfest event always brings thousands of people to the downtown inlet — and this year's attraction will include many music fans who purchased concert tickets well ahead of time.

While admission is free to the 27th annual edition of Springfest as per usual, watching select headliners under the big tent requires tickets. Country singer Josh Turner will croon on Friday, May 5, followed by the rock sounds of Joan Jett & the Blackhearts on Saturday, May 6. The two acts have something in common — tickets sold out far in advance for their shows.

Turner has released a steady stream of hit songs ("Your Man," "Firecracker," etc.) since hitting the national scene with his first album in 2003. Jett, meanwhile, was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. She has been a music scene fixture since she was in her teens and co-founded the pioneering, all-female group The Runaways in the 1970s. She went solo in the '80s with anthems including "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," "Bad Reputation" and "I Hate Myself For Loving You."

Nashville-based touring act Dorado will play the first night of the Dewey Beach Country-Americana Festival at the Rusty Rudder on Friday, May 5. Admission is free.

In Dewey Beach this weekend, the Rusty Rudder is continuing with its annual series of spring music festivals. The Dewey Beach Country & American Festival will kick off at 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, May 5-6. Hometown favorites such as the Clifford Keith Band and Sara Ann Garrison will appear along with regional and national performers. Headlining this year will be Dorado (formerly Chasin' Crazy) at 11 p.m. Friday, and Levi Hummon at 11 p.m. Saturday. Both acts hail from Nashville; for a full run-down of performers and set times, visit www.dbcountryfest.com.

The annual Berlin Jazz and Blues Bash will take place on Main Street in downtown Berlin on Saturday, May 6. The free music will kick off bright and early at 10 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m., featuring a mix of school bands, local nightclub performers and others. The Globe restaurant and theater will get an early start on things by presenting the return of The Nighthawks at 7 p.m. Friday, May 5 ($28, $33).

The Larks will play the Berlin Blues and Jazz Bash at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 6. The event takes place on Main Street in downtown
Berlin and admission is free.

Congratulations go out to Dogfish Head Brewery owner Sam Calagione, who made a national splash this week when he was named Brewer of the Year in the prestigious James Beard Awards. As we mentioned in these pages last week, a farewell party will be held at the original downtown Rehoboth Beach brewpub location at 7 p.m., Sunday, May 7. The bar and restaurant is moving to a new, much larger location right next door. Cheers!
