Dogfish, RAR collaboration highlights Analog-A-Go-Go weekend

Tree bark from Cambridge and maple syrup from the area where Sam Calagione grew up equal the special ingredients for one of the final beers brewed at the old Dogfish Head brewpub.

Dogfish head's Sam Calagione along with RAR's Randy Mills, Chris Brohawn and Dogfish Head's Brewing Ambassador Bryan Selders, get ingredients ready for a collaboration brew on Thursday, Sept 7, 2017.

Dogfish and RAR Brewing teamed up in early September to collaborate on a beer to be specially released at the 7th annual Analog-A-Go-Go celebration, coming up Nov. 3-5.

"Frosty and Havering" is a Vienna-style lager with a biscuity malty base, with characteristics of maple and pine from the special ingredients.

Brewing ambassador Bryan Selders said the malty, toasty brew will "give you a nice, warm feeling" on a fall day.

The idea for the beer came when the four brewers were in three different states and another country. Calagione was in Maine, Selders was in Delaware, and RAR co-owners, Chris Brohawn and Randy Mills, were in San Diego and Germany, respectively.

“I love the creative process," Calagione said. "We had a phone call where the four of us were literally in four different corners of the world to work on the recipe.”

"Frosty and Havering" is just one of the many main events focused at Analog-A-Go-Go. There will be special cask beers, craft cocktails, multiple vinyl vendors, food trucks, an artisanal marketplace, live music on the new pub stage at Brewings & Eats and events at Chesapeake & Maine.

The full lineup

Dogfish Heah and RAR Brewing collaborated to create a beer for Analog-A-Go-Go.

Friday, Nov. 3

Live music kicks off at 10 p.m. at Brewings & Eats with The Legendary Shack Shakers taking the stage. Originally formed in the mid-1990s, this southern gothic band draws inspiration from rockabilly, rock and roll, country and even a little punk rock.

Through the years, the band has toured with The Rev. Horton Heat, featured Jello Biafra on a song and opened for Robert Plant (a huge fan of the band).

Saturday, Nov. 4

The Analog-A-Go-Go festival will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton. This day-long event will feature tastings including rare cask beers and distillery samples, along with special tours of the Steampunk Treehouse and brewery.

Folks can also partake in a record swap while listening to a DJ spinning vinyl and then stroll around the outdoor marketplace to find special, handcrafted treasures. The "off-centered bazaar" will feature 20 independent merchants selling vintage goods, art, crafts, apparel, jewelry, barware, music accessories and vinyl collectors with new and rare LPs.

Marq Spusta, the California-based artist known for his distinct illustrative style and longtime friend of Dogfish, will be creating original art onsite.

Also, of course, there's beer. Here's the lineup:

•Orange Creamsicle IPA – a beer made from Flesh & Blood IPA, vanilla and milk sugar.

•Night in the Woods – a S'mores-inspired stout with super-special Whiskey Barrel-Aged Palo Santo Maron.

•The newly released IPA Liquid Truth Serum, which is Punkin' Ale with lactose, vanilla and extra spices.

•A 90 Minute IPA with ginger and grapefruit.

There will also be a special collaboration with RAR Brewing, and the Distillery Garden will be open to explain Dogfish's grain-to-glass method, serving up samples with the crash course.

After the Analog festivities wrap, Chesapeake & Maine will host Analog Happy Hour until 7 p.m.

At 10 p.m., Brewings & Eats will host Waxahatchee on stage.
