January is traditionally the slowest month of the year for live music on Delmarva, but one Dewey Beach nightspot in particular will be livening things up this weekend with some national talent.

Country performer Sundance Head, who took first place in the 2016 season of NBC's The Voice, will appear at the Rusty Rudder in Dewey
Beach on Saturday, Jan. 27. Tickets are $15.

Country performer Sundance Head, who took first place in the 2016 season of NBC’s "The Voice," will play the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach on Saturday, Jan. 27.

Local group the Federal Street Band will open the show at 9 p.m., and tickets are $15. As part of the TV program’s Team Blake Shelton, Sundance aced the competition with his winning song “Darlin’ Don’t Go.” (He also duetted with classic shock rockers KISS on a pair of that band’s tunes.) Sundance Head hails from Porter, Texas, and is the son of country legend Roy Head.

The Rudder is technically closed for the season, but opening its doors for sporadic events. Looking ahead a month, details have been unveiled for the 2018 edition of the Dewey Beach Winter Gala.

It will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, and tickets are $99. The band lineup includes Joe Bachman & the Party; The Blue Cats; Ben LeRoy & the Snap; and Hollywood Nights: A True Bob Seger Experience. Proceeds will benefit Dewey’s police department and summer lifeguard program. We’ll have more on the gala as the event approaches.

Sweet Leda, pictured, will play a double bill concert with Paul Cullen at the Milton Theatre at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26.

The Milton Theatre has a double bill of musical goodness set to take place on Friday, Jan. 26. Soul-rock quartet Sweet Leda will again share an evening with former Bad Company bassist Paul Cullen, who now calls Sussex County home.

General admission tickets are $20, while $35 VIP tickets include a glass of wine and a plate of antipasti. (The venue has issued a “low ticket alert” for this event.)

On Saturday, Jan. 27, the Milton Theatre will feature Bruce Springsteen tribute act The Rock Orchestra, performing Springsteen’s first three albums in their entirety ($20, $30). Milton’s own Walt Hetfield will bring his Buddy Holly tribute act, Oh, Boy!, to the theater’s stage on Friday, Feb. 2 ($15, $25). Doors open at 7 p.m. each night, with shows starting at 8 p.m.

In downtown Rehoboth Beach, the Dogfish Head brewpub has a free concert set for 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26. Richmond, Va.-based Americana quartet The Trongone Band (pronounced “tron-GO-knee”) will play songs from its debut album, “Keys to the House.”

The roots-y sound has been described as a cross between My Morning Jacket and The Band. The group’s winter tour includes stops in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Dogfish will present a freebie by Philly indie-rock band War on Drugs at 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27.
