Mardi Gras and anti-Valentine's events on tap for beach bars
With so many annual traditions, February is always a busy month on the nightlife scene. As the Super Bowl is now in the rearview mirror (congratulations, Philly), restaurant and pub owners are turning their attention to Valentine’s Day, Mardi Gras and more.
In downtown Rehoboth Beach, The Pond nightclub will host its annual Mardi Gras party on the afternoon of Saturday, Feb. 10, and admission is free. Local favorite Tear the Roof Off will hit the stage at 4:30 p.m., playing its signature mix of zydeco, blues, funk, rock and more. Later that evening, R&B act the Divas of One Love will pack the dance floor at 8 p.m.
On Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 9 p.m., Pickles Pub in Ocean City will present its Mardi Gras/Anti-Valentine's Party with music by DJ Adam Dutch — which is sure to appeal to those who don’t have a significant other this year.
On the big day itself (Wednesday, Feb. 14), a similar event will take place at Bethany Blues Lewes, located on Route 1 at Midway. The business famous for its mix of barbecue and hot tunes has dubbed the evening Nothing for Valentine’s Day. While it won’t feature any special dinner menu for lovers, it will offer $5 crushes for those who are thirsty, as well as the usual, weekly performance by Clifford Keith & Friends at 8:30 p.m.
At the Milton Theatre, professional funny man Lucas Bohn is set to return at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, with his one-man show titled Lesson Plans to Late Night ($10, $15). Bohn is a former elementary school teacher, and his routine focuses on stories involving his students, the cruise ship comedy circuit and his television appearances. America’s Got Talent alumni the Rockett family will present its magic act a total of four times Feb. 10-11. Shows will take place at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with tickets priced from $15 to $30.

Ohio-based Angela Perley & the Howlin’ Moons will play a free concert at the Dogfish Head brewpub in Rehoboth Beach at 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9. Perley’s “Homemade Vision” album recalls influences including Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty and Pink Floyd.
Looking ahead to next month, Dogfish has announced a freebie by Los Angeles dance-rock quartet Vista Kicks set for Saturday, March 3. The band, whose early studio tracks were produced by Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee, is promoting a new album titled “Booty Shakers Ball.”
Even farther in the future is a Thursday, May 24, concert by country singer Russell Dickerson at the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach ($20). However, fans should note that more than 300 tickets have been sold so far to see the crooner behind the hit single “Yours,” and the show is expected to sell out well in advance.
The Ocean City Performing Arts Center has also put tickets on sale for a Thursday, May 17, concert featuring British classic-pop act Herman’s Hermits with Peter Noone. Prices range from $29 to $49.
