Things to do in Ocean City, at Delaware Beaches: Fall festival time

If you long for the change in leaves, apple cider doughnuts and a welcoming chill on your face, then these fall festivals will lift your sweaty, mosquito-bitten spirits.

Sunfest

What: A four-day festival featuring live music, arts and crafts, food, hayrides and kids activities. 
When: Sept. 20-22 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: The Inlet Lot at the south end of Ocean City Boardwalk.

The Sunfest logo towers over the OC Inlet on Saturday, as thousands of resort visitors shopped at the annual festival for arts and crafts, gourmet food, clothes and accessories, and enjoyed live entertainment. Skies were overcast and winds gusted as high as 25 mph or higher, although rain held off during the day Saturday.

Wine on the Beach

What: The 24th annual Wine Fest features Maryland wineries, micro-brewed beer, Delmarva cuisine, arts and crafts, and local and regional live music.
When: Sept. 28-29 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: The Inlet parking lot in Ocean City, closest to the pier and the beach. Look for the festival tents.
Cost: General Admission is $35.00 at the Gate with valid photo ID required. Children ages 13-20 are $15. Children 12 and under are free. Anyone under the age of 21 must be accompanied by an adult.

Good Beer Festival

What: A fall offering of over 100 American craft brews, including a local beer garden featuring Eastern Shore breweries. Listen to live music and master brewers speaking about their craft.
When: Oct. 12 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Oct. 13 from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Where: Pemberton Historical Park, 5561 Plantation Lane, Salisbury.
Cost: Early bird one-day tasting tickets go for $25, or pay $35 on the day of the festival. Non-tasting tickets can also be purchased. Tickets can be purchased at Wicomico Youth & Civic Center until Oct. 11 or online at https://wicomicociviccenter.tix.com/Event.aspx?EventCode=1090109

Autumn Wine Festival

What: A two-day outdoor wine festival that offers samplings from Maryland wineries, food and live entertainment.
When: Oct. 20-21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Pemberton Historical Park, 5561 Plantation Lane, Salisbury.
Cost: Early bird one-day tickets are $25; two-day tickets are $40. Regular pricing is $35 for one day and $60 for two days. Non-tasting tickets range $5 for early bird and $10 at the door and include one non-alcoholic beverage. Delaware

SoDel Fest

What: A southern Delaware food, wine and music festival benefiting Children & Families First and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware. Enjoy 30 wines from around the world, craft beer and cuisine from over 20 local chefs and restaurants.
When: Sept. 29 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Independence Hall & Grounds, 23767 Samuel Adams Circle, Millsboro

Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival

What: The 29th annual showcase of national and international jazz musicians in coastal Sussex County. 
When: Oct. 11-14
Where: The jazz festival operates in several venues throughout Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach and Lewes.

Apple-Scrapple Festival

What: A Delaware classic, the 27th annual fest will feature music, dancing, artisans and a mayoral scrapple toss. Several species of fried food will likely be wafting in the air.
When: Oct. 12 from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Oct. 13 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Where: Downtown Bridgeville. Two separate fields, one for main parking and one for handicapped parking, are located on Main Street.

Sea Witch Festival

What: The 29th annual festival will include two parades, fiddlers and family fun. As always, Sea Witch is a great opportunity to step out of the stuffy office suit and unleash your inner weird. Don't forget to dress up the dog.
When: Oct. 26-28.
Where: Downtown Rehoboth Beach

Virginia

Chincoteague Oyster Festival

What: The 46th annual opportunity for Virginia-bound seafood lovers to enjoy the fruits of the sea.
When: Oct. 6. Gates open at 10 a.m. and seafood is served from noon to 4 p.m.
Where: Tom's Cove Park, 8128 Beebe Road, Chincoteague
Cost: The $45 ticket gives you access to all things clam (on the half shell, steamed, single fried, fritters and as chowder), shrimp cocktail, a salad bar, boardwalk fries, hushpuppies, hot dogs, water and soft drinks. Beer may be purchased separately. Kids under five are free.
