Classic rock and soul group The Funsters will play the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach at 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6. Admission is free.

In recent days, the weather has made if feel like summer never ended. Those out and about at beach nightspots in the days ahead will find that the live music is just heating up.

In Dewey Beach, the Rusty Rudder will celebrate its 39th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 6, with music all day and night — and admission is free. Oldies group The Hubcaps will kicks things off at 1 p.m., followed by the similarly themed party act The Funsters at 5 p.m. At 9 p.m., expect a younger crowd to start filing in as the modern-rock cover band M-80 explodes onto the stage.

In downtown Rehoboth Beach, the Dogfish Head brewpub has a pair of free concerts set for this weekend featuring national touring acts. The action kicks off at 10 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5, with an appearance by Canadian ensemble My Son the Hurricane. The band mixes hip hop and funk, as evidenced on its album, “Is This What You Want?”

South Carolina country-rock group The Artisanals will play a free concert at the Dogfish Head brewpub in downtown Rehoboth Beach on
Saturday, Oct. 6.

Charleston, South Carolina country-rock group The Artisanals will headline Dogfish on Saturday, Oct. 6. It recently landed on Rolling Stone’s “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know” list, and is in the midst of a lengthy tour supporting its eponymous, debut album (which was released last month). Indie-rock group The High Divers will open with an acoustic duo set at 10 p.m.

The sixth annual True Blue Jazz Festival will usher in its five-day run at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, with its traditional Youth Jazz Appreciation Night at Bethany Blues Lewes (located on Route 1 at Midway). Admission is free to check out the young music students from throughout the local community. At 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, the annual jazz jam session will take place at the Avenue Inn’s Blue Hen Restaurant in downtown Rehoboth and admission is free.

At 4 p.m. Thursday, movie director Jim McGorman will host a screening of his jazz film “Open Minds - Chris Potter Underground” at the nearby CAMP Rehoboth Community Room ($10). Later that night, event organizers Eddie Sherman and Peggy Raley will perform with guests Cody Leavel and Griff Kazmierczak at Rehoboth’s Boardwalk Plaza Hotel.

The Rehoboth Beach Convention Center will present Mo-JAZZ: When Motown Meets Jazz at 9:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11. The project is the brainchild of saxophonist Art Sherrod Jr.

The 29th annual Rehoboth Beach Autumn Jazz Festival, which is not affiliated with the smaller event, kicks off at 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, with a sold-out appearance by Brian Culbertson at the city’s convention center. Tickets remain, however, for a show at the same venue later that night; Mo-Jazz: When Motown Meets Jazz (featuring saxophonist Art Sherrod Jr.) will take place at 9:30 p.m. ($49 to $79). We’ll have more about both festivals in next week’s Beachcomber.
