Wilmington soprano favors vintage style with New York edge

WHERE HE SHOPS: Polo Ralph Lauren, Nordstrom, Supreme and United by Blue.  “They have a very eco-friendly message.”

HOW HE SHOPS: “I shop with purpose, for a specific occasion. That said, once a month I go down to the Rehoboth Outlets to see what’s new at the Ralph Lauren store.”

FASHION ICON: Boxer and mixed martial arts artist Conor McGregor. “I’m impressed by his vibrant outlandish style. I found my initial fashion inspirations from style personalities like Aubrey ‘Drake’ Graham and David Beckham.”

FAVORITE DESIGNER LABEL: Supreme.

BEST CELEBRITY HAIR: The actor Jon Hamm. “I admire his hard part.” Also, actor and musician Oscar Isaac “has fantastic hair; I have to figure out how he does it.”

MOST RECENT PURCHASE: A plaid rain pullover from Supreme for $176.

Torrey Malek wears a Ralph Lauren Polo patterned shawl cardigan and stonewashed jeans with a United by Blue heather grey T-shirt and Metro Charm brown leather boots.

OLDEST ITEM IN HIS CLOSET: A military jacket from the 1960s from his alma mater, Valley Forge Military Academy, a gift from his grandfather. “Nobody knew where I got it but everybody wanted one for the pockets.”

GROOMING TIPS: “I get my hair cut once a month. I also use a straight-edge razor to shave.”

BEST FOOT FORWARD: “I do enjoy professional shoes like Aldo and Joseph Abboud. At the same time, I like Nikes with flair. I’ve come to appreciate the compliments I get on my shoes.”

FAVORITE COLOR: Forest green.

FAVORITE FRAGRANCE: Polo Ralph Lauren Cologne.

WORTH THE SPLURGE: Quality. “A Supreme hoodie is $160 but you will have it for years. There’s value in that.”

NOT WORTH THE SPLURGE: “You don’t need to go crazy on anything you sweat in unless you are a fitness model.”

WISH I HADN’T BOUGHT IT: A Stone Island and Supreme collaboration on a hoodie and sweatpants that cost more than $1,000. “I was so terrified of them getting damaged that I only wore them twice and then sold them on eBay to get the worry out of my closet.”

THOUGHTS ON AGING: “My father is a plastic surgeon who works all day to make people more confident in themselves by getting rid of the signs of aging. Personally, I like the old Dos Equis man, who has these lines in his face that add to his personality, and tell you he has experienced a lifetime. Every line tells another part of your story.”

This Wilmington businesswoman looks for joy and glamour in her attire,

GO-TO OUTFIT ON SATURDAY NIGHT: “A plaid Polo shirt with rolled-up sleeves, my Fossil watch with a leather band, pressed chinos, a brown leather belt and loafers or dress shoes, depending where my girlfriend and I are going.”

FAVORITE FASHION RESOURCE: Reddit. “I like to check out Subeddits on things like Men’s Fashion, Shoes and Style Guides.”

ORGANIZATION TIPS: “Everything has its own area, either in shelves or on hangers.”

FASHION EVOLUTION: “I used to go to middle school in sweatpants and Hawaiian shirts. I’ve asked my mother to please put those pictures away. In early high school, I started dressing a little better. I started to reference fashion magazines, my brother started working for an investment firm and dressing more formally which inspired me, and I started to become culturally aware and interested in the arts and how clothing can be used to express those mediums. Creating your own style is like a block of marble that you chip away at to find the art within.”

FASHION NO-NO: “A chain on your wallet.”

INDISPENSABLE WARDROBE ITEM: “At least one watch. And you don’t have to look up at the sun and guess what time it is.”

ACE ACCESSORY: Glasses. “Your whole outfit can be built around your glasses.”

BOW TIE OR STRAIGHT TIE? Straight tie.

BELT OR SUSPENDERS? Belt.

DENIM, LEATHER OR TWEED? Denim.

WHY FASHION IS IMPORTANT: “It’s a sign of expression. It creates an invitation for conversation.”
