Great Delaware Pumpkin Carve to return next year, despite weekend lashing by nor'easter

The inaugural Great Delaware Pumpkin Carve Festival took a licking from rain Friday night during carving, but came roaring back Saturday.

Sponsored by the Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover and the Delaware State Fair, it was held in the covered Quillen Arena at the fairgrounds, so rain Saturday was no problem for attendees. The two sponsors have agreed to hold the event for at least several years to try to build an audience.

This salute to Delaware was created by Theresa Taylor for the Great Delaware Pumpkin Carve.

The weekend nor'easter meant fewer spectators during the pumpkin carving Friday night, but a nice crowd of parents and kids arrived Saturday to see the pumpkins and participate in children's costume contests.

The festival included kids activities such as pumpkin decorating and a hay bale maze, as well as food and Delaware by Hand items for sale.
