Loaded with upgrades, Selbyville model home goes on sale for a cool half million

Ever wonder what it would be like to live in a model home?

Each room looks as if it sprang from the pages of a glossy magazine. The finishes are pristine. There’s zero clutter. Everything looks perfect, probably because nobody lives there.

The other reason model homes look so appealing is because they are loaded with upgrades. The theory is touring home shoppers will see these sizzle features and be enticed to order them for their properties.

A model home in The Overlook community in Selbyville is chockful of goodies. After three years of service, it has just been listed for sale.

The single-family house offers such niceties as custom-painted striped walls in the foyer and turned wrought-iron spindles on the stair case. The gathering room is crowned with a lofty tongue-in-groove ceiling accented with moldings. The kitchen boasts upgraded granite countertops. There’s a stereo sound system throughout the first floor.

“It’s about as close to Fenwick Island as you can get without going over the bridge,” McFaul says.

There’s a sandy beach, outdoor pool, clubhouse and fitness center, boat slips and a community pier for fishing.  There’s also a storage facility for paddleboards, canoes and kayaks. Irrigation and mowing are included in a $3,936 annual home owner’s association fee.

The upgrades in the model home include a storage room, prized in Sussex County where basements are scarce.

“It’s the kind of place you would store your Christmas decorations,” McFaul says.

The house features such energy savers as a tankless water heater. The exterior is clad in hardiplank siding and has a two-car attached garage.

Outdoors, there’s a firepit on a larger patio of pavers. (Both are upgrades.) There’s an open-air porch on the back of the house and a spacious balcony off a bedroom on the second floor that currently is decorated as a girl’s room.
