The first Food Truck Friday was held Friday, Sept. 11, at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach. Event organizers reported about 700 people attended.

Following huge success from its debut year, Food Truck Friday will return this spring.

The event will kick off April 8, in the parking lot at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach.

It will run from 4 to 7 p.m. every second and fourth Friday of the month from April to June.

From July to August, the event will be moved to the second and fourth Thursday of the month.

"Beach traffic during the height of the summer season will be crazy on Friday nights," said Susan Selph, event organizer. "So we'll just shift things around then and keep on trucking."

Each Food Truck Friday will feature live entertainment, children's activities and fifteen rotating mobile eateries, serving foods from a variety of countries and cultures.

In addition to last year's favorites, there will be some new trucks on the lot.

“We are very excited to include Po’ Boys this year,” said Penny MacLennan, who co-manages the church's soup kitchen with Reber Whitner.

The Po’ Boys food truck, serving Cajun and creole cuisine, hit the road in January and has been rapidly booking events ever since. The food truck is owned by Mike Clampitt, chef-owner of Po’Boys Creole and Fresh Catch in Milton.

Other cuisines represented at Food Truck Friday will be Italian, Polish, Jewish, Mexican/SoCal and contemporary American.

Seating will also be provided at each event. Depending on weather conditions, she said, tables will be set up outside on the lawn or inside Epworth’s Fellowship Hall.

At last year’s inaugural event, “we used every chair we could find,” said Whitner. "It was a great problem to have. We're hoping to have the same one this year."

Food Truck Friday was created to raise funds for Epworth and its community outreaches, such as The Food & Love Soup Kitchen and the area’s only skate park. The event raises money through vendor fees and through patrons' donations.

"One dollar almost covers the cost of an entire meal from the soup kitchen," he said.

The church's Love & Soup Kitchen is open every Sunday afternoon year round.
