Fans of Back Street Grill in Salisbury can soon head east for $5 burger night.

Opening this spring in Ocean Pines is Back Street's sister restaurant — Southgate Grill.

In addition to the infamous burger, Southgate will offer other fan favorites such as homemade shrimp and chicken salad, jambalaya and hand-cut fries.

"Everything is made from scratch," said owner Mark Reeves. "Homemade, high quality and affordable food is what we're known for."

In addition to Back Street, and the soon-to-be Southgate, Reeves and his family own and operate Riverside Grill in Pocomoke.

"We've been looking to open a third location for quite some time," he said.

"Things finally felt right for us in Ocean Pines."

The new restaurant, set to open by the end of April, will transform the space once occupied by La Hacidena, he said.

Southgate Grill will feature wooden booths and tables, a quiet side room for hosting private parties and a 20-seat full service bar. Outside, there will be a deck bar and additional seating overlooking the water.

"The restaurant's atmosphere will resemble that of Back Street and Riverside combined," said Corey Reeves, Mark Reeves' daughter. "It'll be very cozy and laid-back, and there will be similar decor, price points and plenty of TVs."

The new restaurant's drink menu will feature a large selection of wine, signature mixed drinks and freshly prepared cocktails, as well as local, domestic and imported beers. Reeves was excited to note that Smirnoff Sourced, a gluten free vodka, and Peligroso Silver Tequila, which supports the Ocean City Surf Club, will also be offered.

Southgate's dining menu will feature fresh salads, homemade soups, sandwiches and heartier entrees like meatloaf and mashed potatoes, prime rib and freshly broiled crab cakes. In addition to daily specials, weekly specials will be offered like $3 margarita night and $1.25 tacos and quesadilla night, she said.

"We're like the working man's restaurant," Mark Reeves said. "We take care of our customers like family. And our menu has got something for everyone."

The Reeves family said they are excited to further expand into Worcester County.

"We think there's a real need for a restaurant like ours in Ocean Pines," Corey Reeves said. "We can't wait to open the doors."
