Healthy juice bar doubles location in Rehoboth Beach

Lisa Daisey, owner of Juicebox in Ocean View, will soon open a second location in downtown Rehoboth Beach.

When Lisa Daisey wants something, she goes for it.

Her personal and professional life has been one daring adventure after the next.

When she was 19 years old, she moved to Hawaii and worked at a whale watching charter company and for a juice bar.  At age 26, she earned her captain's license and traveled the world.

When she came back home to Delaware for good, Daisey longed to open a juice bar, similar to the one she had worked for on the Island.

So she did. In 2012, she opened Juicebox in Ocean View.

Four years later, she's about to do what she does best — she's about to take another leap of faith. Dasiey will open a second Juicebox location in Rehoboth Beach by Memorial Day weekend.

"It's a little nerve-racking," she said. "But in a good way."

The new location will mimic the original, with brightly painted walls, fresh organic juices and a small, handcrafted menu.

The Asian wrap from Juicebox, prepared with wasabi aoli, nori, greens, qunioa, Asian dressing, cucumber, carrot and daikon in a spinach wrap.

The Rehoboth Beach spot, located on 2nd Street next to Papa Grande's, will feature a small retail section filled with items like KIND protein bars, kale popcorn, local organic honey and homemade almond butter.

Homemade pastries, gluten free and vegan options will be offered, as well as K & H Bagels, coconut water, kombucha and cold brew coffee made with Zeke's Coffee from Baltimore.

Even though healthy nutrition is her focus, Daisey understands the importance of throwing caution to the wind and sometimes indulging in life's simplest pleasures, like butter and bacon.

That's why she offers "The Boyfriend" sandwich, loaded with turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, sprouts and mayo, and good ole' fashioned chocolate chip cookies, made with real butter and real chocolate chips.

"Life all about balance," she said, with a smile.

The new location will feature limited seating, but will still hold true to the grab-and-go atmosphere Juicebox is all about. There will be a refrigerator stocked with fresh salads, wraps and sandwiches for those on a tight schedule, either heading back to work or to the beach.

The Frostie from Juicebox, made with frozen blueberry, banana, mango, strawberry and peach.

Juicebox in Rehoboth Beach will also offer the famed Frostie: a colorful cup of creamy, frozen goodness, made entirely of frozen fruit.

"No syrups, no sugar," she said. "I promise you, you don't need them. Fruit has plenty naturally."

As Daisey embarks on this major professional move, she also anticipates moving toward a pretty big personal one.

She will soon marry Robert Difebo, her on-and-off-again boyfriend of nearly 20 years.

"He's always been the one," she said.

As Dasiey runs the Ocean View location simultaneously while preparing for the grand opening in Rehoboth Beach, she admits she wouldn't be able to it without Difebo.

"Juicebox is my 'baby' but Robert is my rock," she said. "I'm ready to go on these new adventures with him."
