Delaware State Fair foods featured on Cooking Channel show

A hot dog topped with scrapple. Now, some people might think that’s a little freaky. But in Delaware? The Scrapple Capital of the World? Well, not so much.

Foods served at the Delaware State Fair will be featured on a March 30 episode of "Carnival Eats," a series on the Cooking Channel.

But, apparently, a hot dog with scrapple served last summer at the Delaware State Fair sounded offbeat enough for the Cooking Channel to come calling to film an episode of its “Carnival Eats” series.

“Carnival Eats,” which begins in its fourth season on Thursday, celebrates what it calls “today’s modern gastronomic freak show.” The show visits national and international carnivals and examines the foods sold on the midways and fairgrounds,

The fourth episode, featuring the Delaware State Fair, is known as “Meat, Pray, Love.” It airs March 30 at 9 p.m. and will be rebroadcast several times in April. Visit www.cookingchanneltv.com for the schedule.

Show host Noah Cappe starts his Harrington eating adventure with a Delaware Dog, or hot dog loaded with scrapple.

Then, he moves on to something called the Frankenfunnel Burger, and chases it down with an octopus-loaded taco known as the Octotaco.

For dessert? Cappe tries a “Killer Cereal Treat,” a deep-fried fruity breakfast smothered in ice cream.
