REHOBOTH BEACH -- "Where can I find an authentic, New York-style Jewish deli offering corned beef or pastrami?" is a frequently asked question readers have submitted over the years to our Friday Dish column.

Rosenfeld's Jewish Deli is a new shop that opened in late April off Del. 1 near Rehoboth Beach. It will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

We try to answer local food, beverage and dining questions most weeks, but, over the years, the deli question has been somewhat elusive.

Why?

Delaware does many casual foods right – cheesesteaks, subs, crabs and crab cakes, and chicken and dumplings, among other things.

But delis? Eh, not so much.

But, that has changed, though you'll have to travel to Sussex County to fill your need.

Rosenfeld’s Jewish Delicatessen opened late last month near Rehoboth Beach, and the eatery has been buzzing ever since. The shop, opened year-round, is located off Del. 1, near Del. route 24, on the northbound side of the roadway, next to the Wawa store.

The eatery is the a second location for owner Warren Rosenfeld whose flagship operation is in Ocean City, Maryland.

Rosenfeld’s offers New York-style deli sandwiches as well as half sour pickles, matzo ball soup, borscht, chopped liver, stuffed cabbage, knishes, babka and New York-style cheesecake.

The menu includes smoked fish platters such as lox, kippered salmon and whitefish, along with kosher hot dogs, corned beef and pastrami sandwiches, beef brisket and tongue.

Breakfast is served all day and includes matzo brie, pancakes known as "Oy Vey!" along withbagels, buttered challah, corned beef hash, Jewish apple cake, potato latkes and noodle kugel.

Warren Rosenfeld, ower of Rosenfeld's Jewish Delicatessen in Ocean City, Maryland, has opened his second deli in Rehoboth Beach.

Dinner items include Bubbe's meatloaf, herb-roasted chicken, beef liver and onions, and grilled knockwurst over sauerkraut with latkes and apple sauce.

The Rehoboth restaurant has a full-service deli area that's three times the size of the flagship location in Ocean City. The bright, white dining room features black chairs with cherry red seats. It has room for more than 70 people.

Hours and days of the week were limited when the deli first opened, but it now operates daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Rosenfeld's also operates a food truck. It will be operating on Friday, May 19, beginning at 11 a.m. at the East Coast Garden Center at 30366 Cordrey Road in Millsboro.
