Christmas in July means eggnog at Lewes Dairy

Since Lewes Dairy is hosting an inaugural Christmas in July 5k run/walk on Monday, July 3, it can only mean one thing: eggnog for everyone.

For the first time ever, Lewes Dairy is offering its famous eggnog in the offseason. And it's for a good cause.

Benefiting the Salvation Army Toy Shop, the Christmas in July 5k run/walk is a holiday-themed celebration and race event for all ages.

Attendees are encouraged to wear Christmas colors, Santa hats, bells or other holiday attire to be eligible for special raffle prizes. Appearances from Santa and elves, who will chase attendees and throw candy, are part of admission.

The event will be held at American Legion Post 17, 113 American Legion Road in Lewes. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the cost is $25 for preregistration or $30 for day-of registration. Students get a discounted rate of $20, or $25 for day of.

The Kiddie K event kicks off at 7:45 a.m. while the main race starts at 8.

Besides the races, activities include egg spoon races, a whipped cream pie throwing contest and face painting and balloons for kids. There will be beer for those of age, dairy treats and other food and drink options, as well.

Sponsors for the event include Lewes Dairy, American Legion Post 17, Races2Run and NOVA Timing Systems. The media sponsor, WJBR, will be playing Christmas music.
