Readers share more cozy fireplace eateries

Patricia Talorico
The News Journal

Earlier this month, we shared some area restaurants and cafes where you can cozy up to a fireplace.

We tried to mention most places throughout the state, but, it seems, we did miss a few.

Some readers sent emails about restaurants that were included in the story. Mainly, favorite fireplace eateries include at Harry's Savoy Grill on Naamans Road and the bar at Harry's Seafood Restaurant on the Wilmington Riverfront.

Several others mentioned Jessop's Tavern in Old New Castle.

But Madalyn Petit says we should have included 1861, a gastropub at 423 N. Broad St. in Middletown. Call (302) 376-7956 or visit 1861restaurant.com

Here are a couple of other emails we received:

V&M Bistro has 'warm and inviting atmosphere'

Vincenza (right) and Margherita Carrieri-Russo pose for a portrait at Vincenza & Margherita Italian-American Bistro in Wilmington. One of the fireplaces can be seen in the background.

We came across your most recent article in The News Journal about fireplaces, which we loved!

At Vincenza & Margherita Italian-American Bistro (V&M Bistro), we actually have two beautiful fireplaces in the restaurant. One in the dining room and one near our bar.

They are both built uniquely, where they sit up higher than the usual conventional fireplaces.

During the cold winter months, they create this warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel like you are at home.

Hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,

Vincenza Carrieri-Russo

Thanks for writing. Vincenza and Margherita Carrieri-Russo are the gracious sisters who run the eponymous Italian restaurant at 1717 Marsh Road in Brandywine Hundred with their parents and brothers. For more information, call (302) 479-7999 or visit www.vmbistro.com

Go to Lewes for fireplace warmth

Don’t forget the great fireplace in the bar and outside at Bethany Blues Lewes.

Wayne Von Stetten

Favorite place is Bethany Blues

Bethany Blues in Lewes has a beautiful stone fireplace in its bar area. My favorite place to go in the winter!

Susan Potter

You're both right. Bethany Blues has a gorgeous, large fireplace. This eatery at 18385 Coastal Highway (Del. 1) in Lewes offers smoked, made in-house barbecue and live music, but it's also a family-friendly spot. Call (302) 644-2500 or visit bethanyblues.com/

Grace Harris stays warm next to the fireplace at Brew HaHa! in Trolley Square.

South Jersey eatery offers colonial comfort

For a special occasion we love the Ram's Head Inn in Galloway, New Jersey. The fireplace in the bar area is so large you can literally walk inside the hearth.

Thanks,

Tony M

Tony, I've never been to the Ram's Head Inn before, but, judging by photos online, the wood-fired fireplace looks amazing and it has comfortable colonial decor.

This South Jersey restaurant at 9 W. White Horse Pike was once known as the Dutch Barn and it served Pennsylvania Dutch food served family style.

It's been the Ram's Head Inn since 1978. Call (609-652-1700 or visit ramsheadinn.com/

Loud music spoils dining experience

Thanks for the “Burger Night” list on Jan. 19.

One of my piques in restaurants and stores is loud pop “music.”  There used to be one or two area eateries that played classical music, and this 80-plus senior would be happy to spend a few extra shekels (or bitcoins) to enjoy same.

Must I drive as far as the Shady Maple to find one?

Dan Hamilton

Dan, thanks for your letter.

We updated our Burger Night list on Jan. 23 and added even more places. You can find a burger special every night of the night. It's on delawareonline.com

There are burger night specials every day of the week. Look for our list on delawareonline.com

Keep in mind, take-out typically is not an option at most restaurants. Almost all specials are dine-in only.

It's been a very long time since I've been to Shady Maple, the smorgasbord featuring 200 feet of authentic Pennsylvania Dutch cooking in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. At that time, I probably concentrated more on piling my plate than the music playing in the restaurant. For more information about Shady Maple, visit shady-maple.com/

I can't think of any restaurant right now that plays classical music, but I'm sure readers can help with this one.

Readers, where should Dan go?
