A new food truck is making meat-packed waves up and down Sussex County.

"It's another way to gain customers and build your business," manager Sarah King said of The Big Salami food truck. "It's just becoming very popular."

The food truck, owned by Casapulla's Subs, is one of the 210 permitted food trucks operating in Delaware, up from 148 in 2015.

With 52 of the First State's food trucks, Sussex County has seen a 46 percent increase in mobile eats since 2015.

The Casapulla's food truck, which opened last November, is equipped with a slicer, grill and fryer. It has the same steaks, subs, meatballs, pulled pork and other thick eats as the storefront location.

Casapulla's Subs in Rehoboth Beach has a new food truck Big Salami, that will be serving up all the Casapulla favorites. Monday, Jan. 29, 2018.

Right now, the truck is open to the public on weekends at The Factory Sports Complex in Lewes and on Wednesday nights at Big Surf Cantina. It will also make select stops at Mispillion River Brewing.

Casapulla's will expand its food truck presence in the warmer months, including at Truckin' Tuesday in Milton.

"We're finding small things to build our name," King said.

Casapulla's started in 1956, when Italian immigrant Luigi Casapulla opened a small neighborhood deli, subs and cheese steak shop. The family-owned and operated business has six locations in Delaware.

The Big Salami, which got its name through a social media contest, is yet another addition. But its operations are different from the storefront, which has a walk-in and is well-stocked.

"It's a smaller space," King said of food truck life. "You don't know what you're preparing for. You have to figure out what you're going to need for the entire day."

"To me, it's fun," she added. "Everybody seems to love the idea of it."
