The former Hunter's Den, known as the Hunter's Grill since 2015, has closed its doors and the 37-year-old restaurant building is up for sale.

In this 2009 photo, the late musician Al Santoro, who died in 2014, introduces Jim Kuehn at the Hunter's Den. The restaurant was known as a "Cheers-like place, with lots of regulars.

The Marshallton eatery had been a part of the Delaware restaurant community since 1981.

The eatery was founded by Helen and Don Jester Sr., who purchased the old Blue Lantern and changed the name. Hunter's Den was first located on Kirkwood Highway and Newport Gap Pike. It moved to its current location on Old Capitol Trail in 1991 after construction began to widen the roadway.

In its heyday, Hunter's Den was known as a "Cheers-like place" with a mature crowd of regulars who occupied the same tables and bar stools.

Bands performed in the panelled area with a U-shaped bar and the relaxed decor was aimed at sportsmen.

Baskets of cellophane wrapped crackers were brought to the table along with cheese spread. Hunter's Den served dishes like fried seafood, crab imperial and prime rib.

The Jester family sold the business in 2015 and the restaurant was renamed Hunter's Grill.

The restaurant closed early this month and is now listed for sale on a commercial real estate website.

Two buildings at 3517 and 3513 Old Capitol Trail are listed for $795,000, and sit on a 1.85 acre lot.
