Rita's Italian Ice is hosting a treat-filled celebration May 18 for its newly opened location on the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk, according to a release.

Rita's Italian Ice is hosting a treat-filled celebration May 18 for its newly opened location on the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk.

Rita's fans should get in line early on Friday: At noon, the first 25 guests at the grand opening will receive free Italian ice for a year.

If they don't make it, Italian ice and gelati will be served all day at discounted rates of $2 and $3, respectively.

The new Rita’s store will also host a fundraiser collecting monetary donations for two local service organizations, The Dewey Beach Lions Club and The Rehoboth Beach Lions Club

“Rehoboth is full of family-oriented fun and all we needed was a Rita’s to make it complete," said Tom Reardon, the owner of the beachside franchise. "With our new location on the Ocean Block and all the vacationers in the summertime, I think Rita’s will be the perfect place for visitors to come enjoy a treat with their family and friends.”

Rita's has been serving Italian ice and frozen custard since 1984. The company now has 600 locations worldwide.

A second Rita's store is located on Coastal Highway, also in Rehoboth Beach.
