The chins of meat lovers on the Delaware Shore may soon be covered in grease dribble from Chaps Pit Beef, now that the Baltimore barbecue mainstay has announced plans to open a location in Rehoboth Beach this fall.

It will be located on Coastal Highway near Iron Hill Brewery — "We'll be neighbors," owner Bob Creager said, adding that the Rehoboth location will offer the same menu as its sister storefronts, with beer and wine as well.

Creager hinted that Chaps Pit Beef, in all its meat-stuffed glory, is a better choice for the resort town than say, "opening a Subway."

The franchise owners are Chris and Gary Desch, the latter of whom lives in Rehoboth. The brothers are Harford County natives and plan to expand beyond Sussex County, according to Creager.

For more than three decades, Chaps has fed the carnivorous masses with Herculean portions of beef, turkey, chicken, sausage and ham.

More recently, patrons have dug into Food Network host Guy Fieri through his "Triple D" sandwich of beef, corned beef and sausage, following an appearance on his show, "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives."

Chaps Pit Beef has come a long way since it opened in 1987, in the form of a 12-by-15 shack outside a nightclub, according to its website. It now has locations in its home city as well as in Aberdeen and Frederick, Maryland, where it opened an eatery in June.

The Rehoboth Beach franchise will be Chaps' fourth offering of fleshy fare.
